Wm. Skadden candidate for Congress from the 21st district spoke at the Rotary Club Banquet held at the Manito Methodist Church. Rev. Joseph W. Hobbs introduced him to about 175 attendees from Forest City Athens Greenview Havana Macomb Pekin and Springfield. dinner by the Comrades of the Way and music by Wesleyan College Sigma Alpha Iota members accompanied by Vera Hermann followed.

Funeral for Cleveland Holtman Held in Beardstown area

Cleveland J. Holtman born January 11 1887 Meredosia Illinois son of August and Anna Holtman died March 15 1950 after a heart attack. He moved to Beardstown at age ten and later to Forest City Community joining St Pauls Lutheran Church. He is survived by wife Henrietta a son William three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were held March 18 1950 with interment in Beardstown City Cemetery.

Unit District Fails to Pass in Election Saturday

Nine residents of Manila and others from Forest City Pekin and Havana traveled by bus to Springfield on Tuesday as witnesses in an Illinois Commerce Commission hearing on a petition by Jacksonville Bus Lines to operate between Pekin and Havana via the Manito Forest City road. Acting Mayor Frank Palmer and several locals attended. There was no active opposition and a decision is expected in five to ten days, with service possibly starting within a week if approved.
