A public message urges voters to study the school reorganization plan and vote thoughtfully in the community unit district referendum. It stresses education over tax levels, notes open meetings, and explains how to mark the ballot with an X and how to obtain a new ballot if spoiled.
A parents group at Parkland School held a thank you party for helpers at a chicken supper. The evening featured Traveling Bingo with prizes won by Martha Meyers Ivy Meyers Alice Heyl Zella Weiss Proehl Billie Meyer Clarence Meyer Ann Heyl George Marion Annabelle Proehl Roy Meyer and Sarah Meyer. Children enjoyed games and contests with prizes, and refreshments were served.
The Manito Home Bureau met at the home of Mrs. Raymond Meyer last Thursday. Thirty members and seven visitors attended. Two new members, Mrs. Lena Morris and Mrs. Bobbie Marquardt, joined. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Leona Kastier’s with Mary Meeker as co hostess.
Miss Wanda Thompson hosted a chilli supper Thursday evening with friends Lucille Meyer Jean Marie Woodley Flora Kastner Wanda Lowry Greta Brebe Don Runyon Olin Burgett Harold James Billy Hamilton Bill Meyers Frank Schimmelphenning Glen Burks Bob Bilyeu Mrs Carroll of Havana and Mr and Mrs John Leischeidt Pekin Pinochle and canasta were played with prizes to Jean Marie Woodley Frank S and Flora Kastner Decorations featured a St Patrick theme.
Eight year old Butch Cranwill Parkins marked his birthday Tuesday afternoon with a gathering at home. Attendees included Kenneth Crafton Patricia Crafton James Crafton Dorothy Vance Ruth Vance Jeanie Vance Donald Simpson Marjorie Bender Tommy Bradman Dickie Todd and Larry Good.
The Hill Palmer Post No. 561 met Monday to install a new corps of officers for the upcoming year. Installed were Lester Bernshausen as Commander Harold Herrman as Senior Vice Commander Wm Henry Fischer Jr as Adjutant Lawrence Parkins as Sergeant at Arms John L Fischer as Finance Officer and Rev Powell as Chaplain. Refreshments were served to a large group.
Parkland students share vacation tales and school activity notes. Linda Dilley provided photos of the cook, teachers, cheerleaders, and pupils while Norman Coombs’s birthday cake honored his day. The paper reviews intelligence test ranks and Easter basket plans ahead of April 6 exhibits.
Springlake church services for Sunday March 19 1950 include Sunday School at 9 45 a m Morning Worship at 10 45 a m and Evangelistic Service at 7 30 p m Miss Florence Cain a missionary from India spoke during the service last Sunday giving a report on her mission work and experiences in India.
Sunday School at 10 a m led by Lawrence Whiteford morning worship at 11 a m led by Joseph Hobbs Pastor. The Anti Cant Class meets at Mrs Kate Hey and Freda home. Ladies Aid Society meets at Mrs Lela Crosby home on Wednesday March 15th.

Rudolph A. Wahlfeld of Mason State Forest and Louis Louck of Henderson State Forest returned from Benton Illinois where they received fire protection instructions. They visited the Union County Nursery drove through Shawnee National Forest and stayed at the Headquarters of Max H. Lane Bad forester.
Alice Philomena Screen born April 17 1884 near Forest City Newfoundland survived a 1888 train accident that killed her father and sister. She cared for nieces nephews and inherited children, trained as a nurse in Peoria and Chicago. She died after strokes Feb 24 and Mar 3 194? funeral March 7 at Immaculate Conception Manita with pallbearers and surviving relatives listed.
The Egypt Community Ladies Aid met on Wednesday with Mrs. John Crosby hosting. Officers chosen were Lulu Meeker president Helen Rankin first vice president Lela Crosby second vice president Mary K Meeker secretary Freda Heyl assistant secretary and Louise Schumm treasurer. Lunch followed for members and guests including Mrs. Russel Crosby and Mrs. Robert Singley.
Reporters Rosemary Snyder and Jon Dee Prochl note a planned contest for opening exercises on Monday and express anticipation for the event.
A list of community activities and meetings scheduled for March including Methodist Fellowship Supper, Home Bureau Play Day, school elections, Mothers Club, Rotary Banquet, bus transportation petition, 4 H Club play, Green Valley Square and Compass Club, Board of Town Auditors meeting, and a Passion Play at the Methodist church.
The Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion of Manila installed officers for the year. Officers: President Bertha F. About 25 members attended with refreshments and a social hour. A regular meeting night will be chosen and plans for the year are underway. Membership is encouraged.

Miss Caroen Bell. Mr and Mrs John Halpin of San Jose. Mrs Vera Hermann of Forest City.
Mr and Mrs Robert Kwasigroh announce the birth of a baby girl named Deborah Ann at Pekin hospital on Wednesday Mrs Kwasigroh is Louise Meyer only daughter of Mr and Mrs Nelson Meyer They reside on a farm near Delavan in Delavan area.

Attendees Included Betty Bernshausen Joyce Wilson Carol Meyer Sharilyn Vogel Roberta Smith Darlene Hawkins Genie Huffman Don O'Hara Arno Hiller Darrell Thompson Jerry Bilyeu Gary Gosda Jimmie Wistehuff Mary Alice Tackman and Marvin Tackman. Prizes went to Jimmy Wistehuff Sharilyn Vogel and Jerry Bilyeu. Lunch of Jez Cream Sodapop and Cake served by Mrs Glenn Tackmann and Shirley Tackman.

Voters in Spring Lake Manito Forest City area will go to polls Saturday March 18 1950 to decide establishing a Community Unit School District. Five polling places open 12 noon to 7 pm with no registration required.

The Manito Grade School Mothers Club will hold a meeting Monday night at 7 30 p.m. at the school. Members are to attend for discussion and planning.
Mr and Mrs Burton Guingerich and daughter Susan visited Mr and Mrs Lester Roth and daughter Sandy of Morton Illinois for a weekend gathering with relatives and family friends present.

The class covers triangle measurement and trigonometry to explore indirect measurement. They move from U S state and local government to world nations, aiming for a friendly understanding of different governments. Science lessons include lab work and end-of-chapter exercises.
Mr and Mrs Norman O Shea announce the birth of a 6 pound 8 ounce baby girl born Tuesday March 7 1950 at Pekin hospital The child is named Deborah This is their second child Norman Earl will be 2 years old in May They reside in Havana
Mrs. Darrel Runyon hosted a birthday supper Friday night in honor of Mrs. Ethel Chessman and Mrs. Darrel Runyon. A cake baked and decorated by Mrs. Christine Johnson graced the gathering attended by Mrs. Mary Bender and daughter Minnie, Mrs. Ethel Chessman, and Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Runyon with daughter Darlene.
Rev Powell apologizes for announcing wrong date for the Passion Play. Life of Christ In Picture and Sound shows March 29, 1950 at 7:80 p.m. Free admission, free will offering requested. Manila Methodist Church hosts the event.

Mr and Mrs Owen Singley and Mr and Mrs Darrel Runyon motored to Delavan Sunday to visit Mr Charles Fischer at Tazewell County Nursing Home. Fischer celebrated his 75th birthday and was described as very well.
