Paul Woods, in charge of the Spring Lake Pumping Station, reports two 30 inch pumps in operation driven by four six cylinder Caterpillar Diesel engines. They pump 45 000 gallons per minute, roughly offsetting water seepage. An 80 000 gallon per minute single pump is expected to be in operation within ten days.
The 8th grade commencement at Parkland School is scheduled for April 27 1950 with Marilyn Heyl as the only graduate. Supt L L Attenberry will deliver the speech and pupil performers will assist. Leaders this week include Anna lee Proehl Beverly Proehl Nellie Fox and more. Jon Dee Proehl notes monitor duties and several students have perfect attendance or are on honor rolls. Several absences stem from a Kentucky family illness. The Tigers led by Steve Herrman contest the Indians led by Jon Dee Proehl.
Reverend D. J. Powell of Manito Methodist Church attended a Vacation Church School workers conference in Virginia last Tuesday. Sponsored by the Illinois Council of Churches, the event featured ideas from state team department workers. Powell plans a vacation school for his church this year.
Funeral services for Miss Alice Screen 62 formerly of Manito and longtime Chicago resident were held Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church Manito. A registered nurse born April 17 1888 she was buried at St Frederick's cemetery. Survivors include sister Mrs Norg Halpin and several nephews and nieces.
Beginning March 30 1950 Palmers Market Singley and Fischer Vetter Grocery Vogels Market Zimmermans Grocery will close every Thursday afternoon until further notice.

The Springlake 4-H Club enrolled five new members at a Monday meeting at Porter School. Names include Dale Stout Jerry Stout Henry Hintz Donald Fries and Donald Schumm bringing total enrollment to sixteen. Leader is Mrs Gladys Bauer with Wm Long as assistant. A rehearsal for The Great Meat Loaf Mystery was scheduled for March 24 at the Manila Opera House with homemade candy sold at intermission.
A special meeting and installation of officers for the Women s Auxiliary will be held at the American Legion Hall in Manila Friday night at 7 p m All mothers sisters wives and daughters of American Legion members are eligible Mrs Chris Kreiling and a group of women from Havana will organize this group A large crowd would be appreciated If you are eligible please attend this meeting Lunch will be served
Mr and Mrs Harold Meyer hosted a Sunday birthday dinner for their daughter Lois. Attendees included Alvin and Mary Hasenyager of Walnut Illinois Donald and Mary Horton of Springfield Eva Ewing and daughter Nancy of Springfield Donna Lee Meyer Pete Vetter Margaret Staley of Peoria Clarence Hasenyager of Eureka and R L Mahr.
Ralph Whittaker, longtime employee of Lewis Warner in Manila, has relocated to Havana to join the Bennett turkey farm. He will reside at 802 South State Street.
Local residents report numerous Sunday visits and weekend trips. Vernon Straman family moved into the Patchett house while Roy Frederick hosted Havana dinner. Various callers include Lowry, Lawson, Runyon, Budke, Hubbard, Look, Ritchie, Palmer, Warner, VanOrman, Dennis, Thompson, O'Shea, Meyer, Beebe, Seelye, and others visiting family homes, colleges, and the Soldiers and Sailors Home.

The Passion Play will be shown at Manita Methodist Church on March 30. It is promoted as a premier life of Christ picture valuable for both children and adults. Admission is free with a voluntary offering.
Mr and Mrs Harold Mason hosted a Sunday party for their granddaughter Judy Mason turning two. The WSCS of Manito Community Church met Thursday evening with 17 members. Mrs Thelma Warner led the lesson and Mrs Emma Hall led devotions. A district meeting is set for April 29 at the First Methodist in Peoria. attendees should contact Marie Bernshausen by March 26 to reserve.
Mr and Mrs Stuart Thomas attended the Lenten musicale in Pekin at St Pauls Episcopal Church presented by performers Mrs H A Hill cellist Mrs W E Schaefer lyric soprano Mrs O W Johnson mezzo soprano Mrs A B Shacklett organist and Mrs F B Arvedson contralto in attendance on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. John Fries with Larry and Mary Ann and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Palmer and Mrs. Charles Wilson drove to Jacksonville to see Charles Wilson who is a patient there. He marked his 68th birthday Sunday and was reported much improved.
Four Agriculture students construct model farm buildings and arrange them in a farmstead wall while three students work problems on dairy feeding. They note roughage as the feed basis and protein feed as the limiting factor due to scarce sources and high milk production and maintenance requirements.
The family expresses gratitude to friends and relatives for cards flowers and sympathy during the passing of Miss Alice Screen.
Mr Harold Gilmore is improving satisfactorily at Pekin hospital after a fall a week ago. He would appreciate hearing from friends.
The F F A held a Mother’s party presenting short movies and an F F A meeting to discuss starting the chain gift. A Future Farmers gathering had all members present with Mr Rush and Mr P atttending as honorary member and advisor. Sales of booster plates and garden seeds were discussed at State F F A activities.
Bruce Meyer and Ken Thomas returned to Macomb and resumed their studies on Monday, continuing their academic work and involvement at the campus.
A 1950 Illinois license plate No. 52584 was found missing and the finder should contact Paul Hintz. The plate was reported lost in Manito on Thursday night.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Marshall and their daughter Kay came back home Saturday after spending a week in Arkansas.

Mr and Mrs E E Reed formerly of Manito announce the birth of an eight and a half pound boy Dean Arthur in Yakima Washington.
The Square and Compass Club play has been rescheduled to Friday March 24 1960. Local attendees are advised to note the new date and time for the event.
Mrs Grant hopes to return home by Friday or Saturday from Methodist Hospital in Peoria where she has been since a fall about a week ago.
