Village Board Begins Water Improvements in Special Session

The Village Board met in a special session to discuss enlarging the water service area. Bonding company representatives who handled the waterworks bonds 13 years ago attended. Planned work includes extending mains to new village sections, adding a new well and pump as backup, with projected costs of 8000 to 10000 dollars.

Widow of Vernon C Crosby a Egypt neighborhood farmer she was born to Matthew and Sarah Langston as the sole surviving child of eight. She moved to Forest City after marriage and later lived with her niece Elsie White. She broke a hip four years ago but now walks unaided. 4 H and FFA Dairy Calf Sale At Champaign Illinois

Saturday February 25 the 4 H and FFA held a sale in Champaign featuring five cattle breeds. One hundred dairy calves were sold with only organization members eligible to buy. Barbary Thomas daughter of Carl and Mrs Thomas Springlake purchased an Ayrshire calf. Fire at Spring Lake Pumping Station Causes 250000 in Damages

A fire at the Spring Lake Pumping Station early today caused about 250000 in damages. The station serviced 10000 acres in the drainage district, keeping land dry for farming. Paul Woods and his son discovered the blaze around 330 am. their home was saved but a garage and tractor burned. Insurance covered buildings and two cars. four diesel engines and the 750 horsepower motor were damaged. Forest City native Winfield A Neikirk died in his Pekin room during the night of February 26 1950 at age 60.
