Service News: Local Families Reunite with Returned Service Members

Sargent First Class Carl H. Armbrust arrived home from Korea after nearly a year of active duty. He landed in San Francisco on February 25 and traveled by troop train to Fort Sheridan for a 30 day leave. Also, Pvt Richard Smith returned on a seven day leave from Scott Field. Capt Glenn Gore and Capt Jerry Morse share new addresses from Camp Cooke and Lackland Air Force Base, while Pvt Donald Runyon begins training at Lackland Air Force Base.

Youth For Christ Services Draw Large Bradley Crowd

Almost 150 people attended the Youth for Christ service Saturday evening in the Opera House. Bradley University students in Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship hosted a program of testimonies, vocals, piano and trumpet solos, featuring a Bradley athlete Jim Heininger. The IWCF unit spans several regions and includes natives of Nigeria and Japan on stage.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray Talbott and Mr. and Mrs. Chas Smith returned on Tuesday from their winter vacation spent in the southland.

Teachers from Mason County gather in Havana for a one day March 14 institute. Morning and afternoon sessions will be held in the Havana school gymnasium. A complete program will be announced next week.

A miscellaneous shower honored Miss Jane Bender on the eve of her marriage to S F C Carl Armbrust at the Golden home. Pancake Supper Held by Methodist Church Saturday

The Methodist Church will serve pancakes in the church dining room on Saturday March 8 at 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Adults pay $1.00 per plate with all you can eat. children under high school age pay 50 cents per plate.

Meyer joins Phi Eta Sigma scholar society at Illinois

James Meyer, son of Mr and Mrs Wm Meyer, a first year College of Agriculture student at the University of Illinois, is among 120 eligible for Phi Eta Sigma. The honor society admits freshmen with at least half A grades or a mix of A and B. Invitations go to the new members on March 20 in the Illini Union faculty lounge.

George Alvin Miller 62, of Manito, died at Caterpillar Tractor Co. at 6 a.m. from an apparent heart attack. A World War I veteran born Sept 19 1889 in Dillon township Tatwell county he lived in Manito 50 years. Survived by three brothers and two sisters. body at Johnson Funeral Home with arrangements incomplete.

Manito Scout Boosters Plan Annual Finance Drive

At a Boy Scout booster meeting in the Community Methodist Church plans were laid for the Annual Finance Drive to fund Scout Troop 174 starting Thursday. General chairman is William Hirst with volunteers including Hal Willett, Ted Bender, Byron Johnson, Howard Wells, Bob Durham, George Hubbard, Everett Woiwoide and Chas Gordon Jr. Rural areas will be canvassed by Louis Proehl, Ralph Parkins, Robert Hermann, John Starrett, Paul Gosda and John Spaits. Forest City work led by Alfred Woiwoide and a group of helpers.

Zeecks Return From West Vacation With GE Prize

Mr and Mrs Julius Zeeck and Mr and Mrs Hank Fischer end an 18 day western trip. The Zeecks toured San Francisco with a 2200 person GE group of 20 buses visiting city sites and surrounding areas. Zeeck won a $500 GE prize and praised the hospitality and convention events.
