20th Century Studios announced the winners of the baby personality contest with prizes mailed to the victors. First prize went to Mrs Lyla Friedrich of Forest, second to Mrs Verna Woodley of Manito, and third to Mrs Wayne Hirst of Manito. Five additional winners from Manito include Mrs Pauline Caulk Mrs Robert Louie Mrs Clarence Palmer Mrs Emery Prentice and Mrs Donna Thompson.
The Altar Rosary Society announces a food and bakery sale on June 17 at 11 a.m. CST at the json Building. Proceeds support parish activities and community programs.
Pauline Caulkins eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul Woods Spring Lake and George Weyrich son of Mr and Mrs Conrad Weyrich Green Valley were married Friday June 9 in a simple ceremony at the Lutheran parsonage in San Jose Illinois Rev Wackler officiated Attendants were Mr and Mrs Tom Cranwill Also present were Mr and Mrs Paul Woods and son Gene and Mr and Mrs Conrad Weyrich The couple will reside on a farm south of Green Valley.
Mrs Anna Meyer Maas, 53, died Monday at a Pekin home. Rites were held at Abts mortuary and St Joseph's church. She was a practical nurse for a decade and a member of St Joseph's church and its Altar Society. Survived by three sisters, two brothers, and an infant son. Interment in Sacred Heart cemetery.
Mr and Mrs Harold Selke plan a Saturday move to 209 Ellis Street Peoria Illinois Agnes Gay remains convalescing at her Manito home with Mrs Davis aiding in care.

Tickets available at Pruett Cafe Manito and Forest Cafe Forest City, with future full interstate tickets once ICC route change is approved. Daily northbound and southbound schedules posted for Manito, Pekin, Peoria, Havana, Forest City.
Vacation Bible School ends Friday June 16 after a peak enrollment of 74. The closing program will be part of the service June 18, with parents invited. Volunteers include teachers and a long list of students across Beginners to Senior classes. exhibition of handiwork planned.
Mr and Mrs Emerson W Ebert earned bachelor of music education degrees at Bradley University. The Peoria couple, residents of 219 West Armstrong Avenue, plan to teach music in the Streator school system next year after involvement with Sigma Kappa Sigma Alpha Iota and Bradley bands during college careers.

Herman John Albert Bartels born May 9 1878 near Poplar City Illinois died June 11 1950 at age 72. He married Kathrine Hermann March 10 1904 near Havana officiated by Rev H Traub. Survived by wife two children three grandchildren two great grandchildren and siblings. Services held at residence and St John Lutheran Church with burial in St John cemetery.
Philip L. Powell son of Wm L and Alice S Powell born near Bader Schuyler County Illinois September 28 1893 died June 11 1950 in Burlington Iowa He served as a Methodist minister in multiple towns and districts including Beverly Terre Haute Blandinsville Nauvoo and BiggsVille He married Goldie Johnston in 1912 and had three sons and twin daughters Funeral services were held at the Biggsville Methodist Church conducted by District Superintendent Dr Paul Curry and assisted by Rev R A Gordon and Rev A O Jones.
Vernon C. Langston was elected president of the homecoming committee at Forest City Forest City Manito Community Unit’s annual meeting and election of officers. The group favored holding the homecoming on the last Thursday in August the 31st. Also named were Russell Rickett as president, Charles Embree as first vice president, Vera Hermann as second vice president, Mabel Emmons as secretary and Harry Embree as treasurer. Directors named include Elmer Bortell, Lee Langston, Vernon C. Langston, Clarence Kreiling and James Rochester. Emmons reported a treasury of 1712.56.
An Iowa firm launched enrollment for the National Benefit Hospital and Surgical plan in Manito and Mason County. Accredited representatives from Des Moines will visit homes to explain coverage and enroll qualified residents before the limited visit ends. Identification cards assure callers are authorized representatives.
The Arrangement of Flower Class of Fancy Fixers 4H club met June 9 at Mrs. C. J. DeSutter's home for their first meeting. Plans were made to visit Loveridge Flower shop in Peoria and to view flower pictures at Block and Kuhl. Five members attended: Joan Reed, Ruth Reed, Phylis Whitehead, Joyce Hill, and Kay Prentice.
Mrs. Dewey Risen hosted a family dinner Monday evening for her husband’s birthday. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Meyer with Penny of Parkland, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Woiwode of Forest City, and Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Risen with Patty and Joy.

Mrs. Glen Talbott celebrated her birthday Friday June 9 at the home of Cleo Griffins with about thirty relatives. The gathering featured fried chicken roses a sweetheart cake and bingo prizes. Relatives attending included Kenneth Chaney and family Evansville Indiana George Clementz Gregg Havana Illinois and many Talbott relatives.
Dr. J W Cooper learned last week of his sister Mrs Agnes Lauber’s serious illness in Holton Indiana. Lauber has visited at his home several times and has many friends in the area. Next Sunday the siblings will celebrate their June 18 birthday together.
