Steve Herrman won first place in District II of Minors at the corn contest with a yield of 124.8 bushels per acre. He was honored at a County Winners banquet with a wrist watch and later participated in a university radio interview with 4 H leader Mrs. Calvin Bauer and Farm Advisor C. F. Bayles.
Representatives from the local American Legion post attended a citizenship banquet in Mason City with about 150 people. The FRA quartet from Forman high school performed. Manito and Mason City-Havana reported 100 percent membership. Yates of Peoria will bring a new dartball board and leaders to Manito on March 9 at 7 00 p.m. for Legion players meeting at the Legion hall. Retiring scoutmaster Hal Willett is thanked. Dave Reynolds becomes new scoutmaster.
Both parties held caucuses Saturday afternoon February 19. Republicans nominated Louis Lussenhop for Road Commissioner who later withdrew and Harold Thompson for Justice of the Peace for an expired two year term. no constable nominated. Democrats named Glenn Williams for Road Commissioner, Raymond Jacobs for Justice of the Peace, and no constable candidate.
An unnamed patient admitted to the Methodist Hospital Peoria for surgery over the weekend has undergone the procedure and is reported making an excellent recovery. The plan is to return home before the end of the workweek.
Miss Marie Caroline Schacherbauer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Schacherbauer, Rt. 2, was chosen by Forman High School students and faculty as the D.A.R Good Citizen. She is active in F.H.A cheerleading chorus and school journalism and plans to study music in college next fall.
Miss Lillie Reed received a phone call from Pekin Tuesday evening stating her brother in law Bud Schmick was taken to Pekin Hospital and underwent an emergency appendectomy that night.
The many friends of Charles Jordon Sr. report he is slowly improving and trying to sit up a little each day. Ecards and get well tokens continue to arrive and brighten his days with gratitude.
C F Hopper Smith has been confined to his home all week due to an attack of flu. Local note records indicate his condition as of the period.
The February 25 house cleaning day at the St Pauls parsonage follows interior redecorations by male members with donations. Confirmation class meets February 26 at 1 p.m. Harold J. Schlicker will be installed as pastor on March 6 with a 2:30 p.m. service and reception. A Family Pot Luck is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the church.
The Wilbur White family of Pekin is in low spirits after a fire injury to Wilbur and illness of Mrs White. Their newborn baby, January 1, has been taken to a Peoria hospital. The appeal requests cards or small gifts to brighten their days, addressed to the Wilbur White Family at 1118 Summer Pekin MI.
Mrs James Seelye Mrs Wayne Wistehuff and Mrs Tess Velde were Wednesday dinner and afternoon guests of Mrs Lela Crosby with tea and social hour following.
Mr and Mrs Laurence Parkin announce the birth of their first child a daughter born Tuesday afternoon February 22 at Pekin Hospital. The mother is formerly Shirley Hundt. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Nelson Hundt and Mrs Mary J Wooding.
Mr. and Mrs. John Grube were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Grube and family.
Report of the HOH anniversary dinner in Havana last night. The program for the evening featured organizers and speakers, with attendees from Rotary and local groups.
The Manito Methodist Church W S C S will meet Thursday night with husbands as guests. Special speaker Mr Haslan of Havana will show pictures from his United Nations visit. Refreshments planned and members urged to attend with a friend.
Janet Skinner is Forman’s Betty Crocker Homemaker of Tomorrow after scoring highest on a written homemaking exam among senior girls. She advances to compete for the state's All-American Homemaker of Tomorrow title with a $1,500 scholarship and a school trip to Washington, Williamsburg, and Philadelphia. General Mills sponsors the program to promote homemaking careers. the national winner is announced April 21 in Philadelphia.
The Community Methodist Church will host a pot luck supper in the church basement at 6:00 to welcome Rev. and Mrs. Young and their three sons. The event, replacing the March class meeting, invites the congregation and friends to attend after the Sunday morning sermon.
The Spiritual Life Committee of the W.S.C.S. sponsors World Day of Prayer at 3 00 p m Friday February 25 at Manito Community Methodist Church The theme Fruit of the Vine features a dramatic skit worship and prayer service and Sacred Music by the Junior Choir Public invited to attend.
