Mrs. Warner 69 Dies Manito. Funeral Saturday

Mrs. Warner aged 69 of Manito died after years of illness. She married Henry Warner in Pekin on November 18 1909 and is survived by two sons George Varna and Everette Lincoln a daughter Christina Tillman Peoria a sister Mrs Frank Moore Pekin 12 grandchildren and many relatives. Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday at St Pauls Lutheran Church with Rev Lester H Kuker officiating. Burial Meadow Lawn Cemetery. Visitation Friday afternoon and evening and at the church after 10 a.m. Saturday.

Optimist Club Plans Turkey and Bean Supper in May

The Manilo Forest City Optimist Club organizes a turkey and bean supper for May 9 to boost attendance and recruit new members. Members earn 1 point per attendee through April meetings and 10 points for each new member. the winning team will dine on turkey that night while the losers eat beans.

Talbotts and companions depart for south vacation

Mr and Mrs Glen Talbott leave for a two week southern vacation with Mr and Mrs Harry Brown Pekin joining briefly. They plan to meet Mr and Mrs Co J DeSutter returning from a sixteen day Caribbean cruise they are enjoying. Kenneth Chaney and family stay in the Talbott home during their absence.

Mason County corn growing champion crowned at Bloomington banquet

John Warfst Alett of Boston was named county corn growing champion at a Bloomington banquet honoring Central Illinois champions. He posted 108.70 bushels per acre, top in Mason County for the 1954 National Selected Five Acre De Kalb Contest. Wayne Behrends of San Jose and David W. Tomlin of Mason City followed with 108.14 and 105.723 bushels per acre respectively. Donald Parkin of Manito placed fourth with 104.5 bushels per acre.

Ten Make Trip To John Deere Factory

Ten area men traveled yesterday to the John Deere factory in Waterloo Iowa leaving Manito early Wednesday morning. They rode the Rock Island Rocket from Peoria to Waterloo and joined about 200 visitors at the John Deere Supervisor's club for dinner. The group returned to Manito by train arriving about 11 p.m. A March 6 trip is planned. Tag Day Sets February 19 1955 Drive for Salvation Army

A tag day will be held Saturday February 19 1955 under Amos Thompson for the Salvation Army drive. Youngsters will canvass the city selling tags with a goal of donations up to one dollar per tag to aid local needs such as clothing for schoolchildren and medical assistance. Funds stay in the community to be administered by a welfare committee to serve local needs.

At a Monday night meeting, Manito township assessor Ralph Lee offered his resignation for health reasons. The board appointed Amog D. Thompson to fill the unexpired three year term. Caucuses Saturday will nominate a justice of the peace a constable and a road commissioner.

Optimist Club Reports 2100 Hours Toward Pool Fund

Carroll Farnam reports at the 28th district Optimist meeting in Havana January that more than 2100 man hours by boys’ work have been logged since last summer. Most effort funded the pool project with additional swimming fishing trips and a St Louis baseball excursion. The club has raised over $3000 for the pool fund and Manito Forest City leads the district in boy’s work points.

Trees to Tribune film shown at Rotary meeting

A film detailing newspaper production from wood to finished paper was shown to the local Rotary club. The Chicago Daily Tribune produced the film and the Peoria public library released it.
