The American Legion and Legion Auxiliary visited twenty two homes in Manila on Sunday delivering Christmas cheer and friendly holiday wishes in boxes with fruit candy and food. Thirty one packages were delivered to elderly persons with no nearby family to bring holiday joy.
Mrs. Mary Bender warded with a goose dinner at home for her 90th birthday on Christmas Day. Guests included John and James Bender of Pekin, Minnie, Katharine Wimmer and Naomi, with Walter Bender unable to attend due to bad roads. Cards flowers and four birthday cakes from relatives and great granddaughter La Donna Bender marked a happy day.
Community notes celebrate servicemen spending Christmas Day with home families. The piece lists several local men on leave from Norfolk Virginia, Emporia Kansas, Longview Texas, Fort Riley Kansas, and a Texas Air Force base, visiting relatives through early January.

Mr and Mrs Raymond Meyer announce the engagement of their daughter Lucille to James Dean Bowlby son of Mr and Mrs D E Bowlby both of Green Valley Lucille is a Manito high school graduate who attended the University of Illinois and works at Corn Products Refining Co Pekin James Bowlby a Green Valley high school and Illinois State Normal University graduate now employed by Standard Brands Inc
Mr and Mrs Glen Talbott hosted twenty guests for a Christmas Day turkey dinner at their home. Attendees included Kenneth and Chaney, Dwane and Darlene, Gaile and Talbott, Connie and Glenn Scott, Robert and family, Linda and Yaren, Earle and family, Lacey, Paul Sosda, Gary and Mary Linn, and Maude Talbott of Pekin.

Mrs Kate Hilst of Manila fell at her Peoria home injuring her left leg. X rays showed torn ligaments. She is at her daughter Mrs Norval Wright's home at 301 Second St Peoria and must refrain from using the leg for ten days to two weeks. She is mother to Bill Hilst of Manito and Wesley of the Egypt neighborhood.
The Starrett homestead hosted a pre-Christmas dinner and gift exchange with family members including Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson, Chad Starrett and Pekin relations, Roy Lightbody and Glasford relatives, Burton Hasselburg and Peoria children, Seaman Harvey Starrett and wife from Los Angeles, and John Starrett and sons along with Mrs. John Starrett Sr.
Mrs Mollie Corbett and her daughter Mabel welcomed Dr J E Corbett Pekin Jack Halters Peoria and Jack Halpin to their home for Christmas Day.
Mr. and Mrs. Earle Heckman hosted Christmas Day guests including Mr. and Mrs. Bunton Hasselburg and children Mike Nancy and Eric at their home on the holiday.

Mr and Mrs Clarence Meyer celebrate 25 years of marriage at their country home on Saturday December 29 1951 Their sons Russell 22 in the Air Force at Wichita Falls Texas and Bruce 20 with the 44th Division scheduled to leave in mid February.
Mrs Mary Halters, mother of Len Halter of Peoria, died Sunday in O Fallon Missouri at age eighty five. Funeral services were held there Wednesday with burial in O Fallon. Survived by two sons two daughters and many grandchildren she was, remembered by Manito residents who hosted her in Peoria during visits to Mollie Corbett and Mabel.
Christmas festivities began with a supper and gift exchange on Christmas Eve and a turkey dinner on Christmas Day. Present were Mr and Mrs Wayne Wistehuff and sons Ronny and Jimmiy Dr and Mrs Clyde Ulrich of Peoria and the James Seelyes.
Forman Senior High School announces an open house and gym dedication at Manito on Thursday January 3 1952 from 5 30 to 9 30 p m with displays from the Science Vocational English Social Science and Music Departments. The 8 30 program includes remarks by County Superintendent Joseph W Hobbs Board members and Rep Harold H Velde with a reception by F H A and F F A clubs.
The Bible Study Class sponsored by the Woman's Society of Christian Service will meet Thursday January 3rd at 10 30 a m in the home of Mrs Wm Hirst Attendees should bring a sack lunch and stay for the afternoon business meeting Mrs Powell will lead the Acts study Mrs Jesse Ethell will conduct the afternoon session Devotions will be led by Mrs Emma Hall hostesses are Mrs Phoebe Gore Alpha Schumm and Robert Marquardt
