Manita Fire Destroys Roof in Beebe Tenant House

Manita Fire Department was summoned to Ernest Beebe's tenant house five miles north of town on Saturday evening to battle a blaze that started near the chimney. The fire consumed the roof and upper structure, with losses estimated at 1500 dollars. Mr and Mrs Sam Wilson and their one year old child, residents for two months, are moving into Dr Fremont’s building on the Wright estate today.

Forest City's First Community Tree Centered by FBI Program

Forest City prepares its first community Christmas tree from Mason State Forest with a 20 foot pine on Main Street. Santa arrives about 8:30 Friday night, with treats to be handed out near the tree or in the town hall if weather fails. Forest City Auxiliary, Legion Post 1190, and local volunteers including Kathleen Reich and Francis Halpin organized the effort with Homecoming Association support for wiring and lights.

Commissioner resigns as Manito Township road chief

Charley Hill handed in his resignation as road commissioner of Manito Township on Thursday morning December 13. Orin Zimmerman serves as acting substitute during the present emergency, with a new commissioner to be appointed when the board meets December 28.

Roy Craggs Spring Lake resident dies at home

Roy M. Craggs, 63, of Route 2 in the Spring Lake area, collapsed while carrying furnace ashes and died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday. Survived by wife May Hardin, daughter Alice Watson of Pekin, two sisters Ella Beckwith and Mary Sutton, two brothers Charles Craggs and Clare Craggs, and one grandchild. Funeral Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Preston Funeral Home Pekin. Burial Glendale Memorial Gardens.

Forman F H A Meets In Foste Home December 10

Mrs Elizabeth Foste and Arla Jean hosted the Forman F H A group at their home Monday December 10. The meeting opened with the creed and state song. Plans were made to invite a neighboring chapter in March. Gifts were passed around the circle and 40 members enjoyed lunch served by freshmen. The next meeting will be at the high school with Mrs Foste explaining how to make lamp shades.

Santa Arrives in Manito Saturday Evening

Santa Claus will arrive in Manito at 6 00 Saturday evening with a treat for all the boys and girls of the Manito shopping area. Local businessmen sponsor a free picture show for the kiddies on Friday afternoon starting at 2 30 and running late to allow Forman School party attendees to see the show afterwards.
