The community mourns the sudden death of Howard Boyd on Sunday at 3:45 p.m. He had retired from Keystone Co. after a long battle with a chronic heart ailment and had been in failing health.
Moses H Boyd born February 28 1888 in Bath Illinois son of Charles and Martha Boyd married Emily Cranwill in 1909. He worked 27 years at Keystone Company near Bartonville and retired a year ago due to health. He died Sunday at 3 45 PM at his home survived by wife Peg daughter Mrs Hugo Hoepfner two grandchildren and siblings. Funeral held at Johnson Funeral Home with burial Meadow Lawn Cemetery.
John Halpin principal of the San Jose Grade School completed the University of Illinois summer term on August 15 and earned a Master of Education degree. He is the son of Wm Halpin of Manito and an alumnus of M.C.H.S.
Mr and Mrs John Bender Mrs Katherine Wimmer and daughter Naomi drove to St Louis Saturday for a day at the zoo.
Nancy Haselburg, polio patient at St Francis Hospital last week, returned home Sunday and is convalescing rapidly with no ill effects. She is granddaughter of Mr and Mrs Ray Starrett.
Mrs. V. G. Gore states her husband is showing satisfactory improvement after a recent operation at Methodist hospital in Peoria where she spends daily hours at his bedside.
Thousands packed the Forest City High School campus for the annual homecoming celebration. Joseph W. Hobbs served as master of ceremonies as J W Baus spoke on responsibility, with music by WLS stars and local groups. Prizes were awarded as visitors from many states joined town residents for dancing and tailgate dinners.
Mrs. Lucy Rakestraw, 78, of Manita, died at 3 30 p m Monday in a Peoria hospital after a long illness. Born March 8, 1875 in Havana, she married Chester Rakestraw April 29, 1939. Survived by husband, one daughter Mrs. Virgil Smith of Lockport, and two grandchildren. Funeral 2 p m Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev Joseph Hobbs and Rev David J Powell officiating. Burial in Springdale Cemetery Peoria. Hymns by Mrs Ralph Ethell and Mrs Vernie Ethell, with Alpha Shumm at the piano. Pallbearers: James Seelye, Arvin Beebe, William Hodkinson, Byron Budke, William Hirst, S. E. Dennis.
Vacationing Mr and Mrs Glen Talbott and Lacey Talbott with Mr and Mrs George Clementz and son Greg of Wilmington left Monday for a week long trip to the Oranks. Kenneth Chaney family reside in the Talbott home during their absence.
Mr and Mrs Harold Meyer and their two sons arrived by plane from San Francisco California for a five day leave. They will return to work Wednesday while Mrs Meyer and the boys stay for an extended visit with relatives including the Neikirk and Meyer families and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Maskel left Saturday for their home in El Paso Texas after spending part of the week visiting with Mrs. Agnes Gay and Mrs. Lutecia Gray Mrs. Maskel is the daughter of Mrs. Gray.
The Past Presidents Club of Mason County invites all former board members to a tea and program at the Riverside Club Havana at 2 p m on September 2. Fern McCoy serves as publicity chairman.
Mr and Mrs George Hubbard, son Alan and Mrs Molly Runyon joined relatives at Village Park San Jose Friday evening to honor Dr and Mrs Richard Chapman of Lexington Ky who are visiting. Mrs Chapman is the former Evelyn Holligan sister of Mrs John Halpin who organized the event.
Mr and Mrs Wayne Wistehuff and sons and Mr and Mrs James Seelye were Sunday evening dinner guests of Dr and Mrs Clyde Ulrich in Peoria.

Mr and Mrs Robert Mitchell announce the birth of their third child and first daughter born at Pekin hospital on Saturday August 22. The baby is named Ricky Mae.
Mr and Mrs Robert Farnam announce the birth of their daughter Rhonda Sue. The family is at home following the hospital stay with well wishes from relatives and friends.
Rita Adele is the eight pound nine ounce daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Alexander born at Pekin hospital at 12 26 p m last Friday. A brother Steven welcomes her home with grandparents Robert Alexander of Delavan and Ernest Beebe also of Delavan. Maternal great grandparents Lon Beebe and paternal great grandmother Roy Breedlove are named.
Mrs Laticia Gray was away from Monroe's Cafe from August 16 to 24 taking a vacation. During that period she served as a four day delegate to the Nazarene Assembly in Peoria.
