Sudden Death Shocks Community as Howard Boyd Dies

The community mourns the sudden death of Howard Boyd on Sunday at 3:45 p.m. He had retired from Keystone Co. after a long battle with a chronic heart ailment and had been in failing health.

Moses H Boyd born February 28 1888 in Bath Illinois son of Charles and Martha Boyd married Emily Cranwill in 1909. He worked 27 years at Keystone Company near Bartonville and retired a year ago due to health. He died Sunday at 3 45 PM at his home survived by wife Peg daughter Mrs Hugo Hoepfner two grandchildren and siblings. Funeral held at Johnson Funeral Home with burial Meadow Lawn Cemetery.

John Halpin Receives Masters Degree

John Halpin principal of the San Jose Grade School completed the University of Illinois summer term on August 15 and earned a Master of Education degree. He is the son of Wm Halpin of Manito and an alumnus of M.C.H.S.

Forest City Homecoming Draws Multistate Crowd

Thousands packed the Forest City High School campus for the annual homecoming celebration. Joseph W. Hobbs served as master of ceremonies as J W Baus spoke on responsibility, with music by WLS stars and local groups. Prizes were awarded as visitors from many states joined town residents for dancing and tailgate dinners.

Mrs. Lucy Rakestraw 78 Passes After Long Illness

Mrs. Lucy Rakestraw, 78, of Manita, died at 3 30 p m Monday in a Peoria hospital after a long illness. Born March 8, 1875 in Havana, she married Chester Rakestraw April 29, 1939. Survived by husband, one daughter Mrs. Virgil Smith of Lockport, and two grandchildren. Funeral 2 p m Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev Joseph Hobbs and Rev David J Powell officiating. Burial in Springdale Cemetery Peoria. Hymns by Mrs Ralph Ethell and Mrs Vernie Ethell, with Alpha Shumm at the piano.
