John P. Lynch was named an Honor Scholar at Knox College during an Honors Convocation in Galesburg Illinois. Lynch, son of Christine Lynch of Manito, is a 1954 Forman High School graduate and earned a cumulative yearly index above a B average.
Rose Marie Robertson of Maen will teach physical education at Forman High School for the coming school year. She will graduate from Fillmore State Normal University in June with a major in Health and Physical Education. Robertson has 55 hours in physical education, about double the typical amount for teachers, and held leadership roles in Mason City High School Society including vice-president treasurer president and Girl's Athletic Association delegate.
Miss Robertson named new Forman Teacher and National Honor Society sponsor after graduating in 1951 from high school with a State Scholarship. She has worked as a camp counselor and recreation leader for Girl Scouts and 4-H, taught Sunday school, and held 4-H offices. She's spent summers as a recreation assistant in Mason City and will move to Manila before fall term, bringing strong leadership and activities background.
Forman High School students Frances Caulking and Merrill Dierker, selected by the Manito Rotary Club, will attend the Egyptian Music Camp at Duquoin for a week this summer. Frances earned a Superior rating in the district contest and will join Merrill, a notable Forman High School Band member, for state competition. The exact camp dates are flexible with a June week requested. Competent instructors will assist the students in improving their musical skills during the sessions.
Excavations completed for three residences in Brown's Addition. Plans are ready and construction will start soon for Mr and Mrs John Gilmore Mr and Mrs Nelson Caulking and Mr and Mrs Oron Zimmerman.
Alva LaBar of the Foman High School faculty has signed a contract to teach at Roadhouse Community High School for the 1955 1956 school year.
The Athletic Banquet honoring Forman High School and Junior High athletes will be held at Forman Gym Manito at 7 30 DST Tuesday May 10. A basket supper will be served with paper plates available. Herbert Haslem Havana will give remarks and colored slides of the 1952 and 1964 Rose Bowl Parades will be shown.
CILCO has joined the Atomic Industrial Forum a private industry group designated by the Atomic Energy Commission as a depository library for unclassified atomic energy information. Ek D Edwards and Q W Wellington represent CILCO in the forum whose members discuss nuclear energy problems and opportunities for peaceful electricity production.
About 89 attendees joined Delavan Rotary for a candlelit supper at the Delavan club room. President Nelson C. Warner welcomed guests as Forman High School students performed, with solos by Frances Caulking and Merrill Dierker and a F.F.A. Quartet and Saxophone Trio providing music. Rev. C. G. Young delivered the invocation and benediction.
Mrs Kathryn Briggs is visiting and staying with Mrs Effie Cox this week. The arrangement brings together two local families for a short house guest period.
Stanley Noll 17 a Forman senior named Section 12 FFA Star Farmer by a three man committee for projects in Dairy Corn Soybeans Oats Christmas Trees Swine Sheep and Wheat Our selection adds Forman Community High School five winners in a sectional contest Forman FFA members dominated with awards though Steve Herrman waived first place in Farm Beautification Corn entry. The Star Farmer will represent 630 FFA members in 22 schools across three counties form an upcoming district contest.
