Jemees Meyer Receives University Honors at Nichols University

Jemees R Meyers son of Mr and Mrs William J Meyer of Manne is among 1600 seniors to receive University Honors at Nichols University on Friday April 28 during the First Annual Honors Day in the university auditorium. He is in the College of Veterinary Medicine and earned Bronze Tablet engraving for ranking in the top 3 percent over four semesters. Mrs Meyer attended the exercises and the weekend honored campus mothers with church services breakfast and a Mother Day dinner at Ill-Del House.

Forman Athletic Banquet Set For May 10 At High School

The Forman High School Gym in Manito hosts the Athletic Banquet at 7 30 p m on Tuesday evening May 10. Attendees include athletic boys cheerleaders from both junior and senior high with guests asked to bring a basket supper and own service. Several committees named include Favors and Decorations chaired by Mesdames Proehl Parkins Irvin and Rankin, Coffee chaired by Mesdames Hubbard Callaway, and Food chaired by Mesdames Scranton Hailey Meyer Gosda and Watthauer.

Doctor Hauter Ordered to Active Air Force Duty

Dr. Dean A Hauter of San Jose will quit his medical practice after May 28 as he is ordered to active duty in the U S Air Force Reserve for about two years. He will spend three weeks at Air University and Gunther Base in Montgomery Alabama before reporting to the 4160th USAF Hospital, Castle Air Force Base California.

Memorial Poppies Donated by Veterans Hospitals

The Manito Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary receives memorial poppies made by disabled veterans at Veterans Hospitals of Illinois. The crepe paper flowers with wire stems imitate the European poppies that bloomed between the crosses in World War I cemeteries in France and Belgium.

Smiths announce birth of son Ralph Alan

Mr and Mrs Jacob Smith announce the birth of their first child, a son born Friday April 29 at Pekin Hospital weighing eight pounds twelve ounces. He is named Ralph Alan. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Ray Smith.

The Springlake Charming Chicks 4 H club held its May 8 meeting opened by Vice President Barbara Thomas with minutes approved. Members demonstrated sewing tools and technique including cutting, tracing, stitching and pattern work. Poppy Day Funds Protect Veterans in Manila

Miss Clarabelle Priddy, Rehabilitation Chairman of Manila Auxiliary Unit, describes Poppy Day on May 28. Money from coin boxes is split: half for veterans relief and half for child welfare. Local funds stay in the unit, buying poppies from the Illinois Auxiliary, made by disabled veterans with no overhead, all volunteers.

Fred Grob former Manito Resident Dies

Fred Grob longtime Manito resident and former Wiedmer Chemical Company worker died after a long illness. He served on the village board and the school board, lived in St. Louis since 1919, and is survived by his wife a son and two daughters plus a stepdaughter and a deceased daughter. Funeral services set for Friday at Highland Cemetery.

Vacation Bible School Planned at Community Methodist

Rev C C Young and the Religious Educational Committee of the Community Methodist Church name a staff for Daily Vacation Bible School from May 31 to June 10. Local Rail Agent Appointed at Havana

Marvin Ellingworth is named local agent for the C. and J. M. Rail Road at Havana replacing retiring Robert Laws after forty years of service. Ellingworth has served as third track operator for five years and does not plan to move his family to Manito for the present.

The Boy Scouts held a paper drive last Saturday and collected a truckload of paper. They aim to finish the drive next Saturday and, at the last meeting, began studying signaling and announced plans to start a library.
