County Court Convenes in Manatee with Heavy Docket

The first term of Manatee county court opened Monday at 10 am with Judge Stewart presiding. The docket includes over twenty criminal and numerous civil cases, with rapid convictions expected. John A Graham versus Claude LEngle for criminal libel faces hearing as LEngle is sought for arrest.

Seaboard Exhibit Plan At Jamestown Exposition

Sea Board Air Line outlines its 1600 square foot enclosure inside the States Exhibit palace at Jamestown Exposition. Displays cover cotton products from seed to finished goods, sea island cotton, and by products. include woods, minerals from near the Atlanta Birmingham line, and Florida fruits vegetables tropical plants. Sponges from Cedar Keys and Sumatra shade tobacco complete the exhibits.

Legislature Still Grinding Through Session

The legislature continues to grind away and holds a record for accomplishing little. County division fights consume much time and may last the entire session. Many important bills remain, and as closing hours near, they deserve serious consideration. The Record hopes members will focus on state nature bills while time remains.

Manatee County Board Approves Exposition Pamphlet Fund

The Manatee County commissioners met in regular session and approved a $200 appropriation for publishing a pamphlet promoting the county. George Riggin will distribute it at the Jamestown exposition, representing the Seaboard Air Line railway, with no county cost. Fuller proceedings to follow next week.

Murder on the Ellenton Line T: Five suspects jailed after inquest into negro victim

A southbound passenger train at Ellenton struck and dismembered a man identified as a negro. Investigators found a bullet wound and signs of foul play. Justice Horace E. Harllee held an inquest and Sheriff Wyatt jailed three black men the following morning.

Manatee County Medical Association Meets in Sarasota

The Manatee County Medical Association held a regular session in Sarasota with doctors from Manatee and nearby towns. Mayor Gillispie welcomed the group, praising Sarasota’s growth and its sanitarium, while Dr H Gates delivered a favorable response and the eye diseases paper by Dr John Halton was acclaimed. The association toured the sanitarium and local members were entertained at Dr Halton’s home, with Lefingwell serving as toastmaster. next meeting set for Palmetto.

Shark bites finger in Manila harbor boat mishap

In Manila harbor a shovel-nosed shark bit sailor J. J. Dunlap after he stuck his finger in a boat hole to prevent swamping. Diagnosed as injured while performing duty, Dunlap may retire on pension as the Navy reviews whether the act was gross carelessness. The shark remains at large.
