A workman found mastodon teeth and bones about three feet underground near an ancient oak while preparing marl beds for city paving in St. Petersburg. The fossils, poorly preserved, were removed by the paving superintendent A J Fisher and will be sent to a National Museum official. Naturalists note this challenges prior beliefs about where mammoths are found in phosphate beds. A fresh seed display at Lloyd and Vo accompanies the notice.
