Marriage Vows Exchanged for Debra Durham and Joseph Linn Kennebeck

Debra Sue Durham and Joseph Linn Kennebeck, both of Council Bluffs, were united in marriage at St. Patrick Catholic church with Rev. Paul Monahan officiating. The bride wore an organza gown with venice lace and pearl accents. maid of honor Barbara Petersen and bridesmaids Nancy Smith and Sharon Kennebeck, all of Council Bluffs, attended. Reception and dance at Danish Hall followed. couple to reside in Council Bluffs after a Hawaii wedding trip. Guests came from several states including California, Florida, Washington, Michigan, and South Dakota.

Legion Auxiliary Fall Conference in Clarinda Oct 1

The 7th District American Legion and Auxiliary Conference will be held in Clarinda on Saturday October 1 with registrations at 8 a.m. Legion and Auxiliary meetings in various rooms, a joint banquet at St John’s Lutheran at 13th and Chestnut, and a banquet program featuring Les Eddy and Pancratya Mullison.

Delta Kappa Gamma Beta Beta Chapter met at the Brick Inn in Tabor on Wednesday Sept 21. Fifteen members attended. Lois Whitson presided. Reports on the Omaha Regional Meeting were given by Lutie Graham Clevia Williams Flora Bruce and Lois Whitson. Jean Strom presented a program on Achievement in Self Renewal. Malvern attendees included Elva Hoover Vera Cronkhite and Anne Fulton Corresponding Secretary.

Malvern Legion Meets on Canal Saving Effort

The Harry Hammons Post met at Malvern Liberty Memorial Building at 7 30 p m Monday September 26. Commander John Phelps led the session urging members to write to their Congressperson to save the canal. The 7th District Fall Conference was announced for Clarinda American Legion Club and auxiliary activities planned for Clarinda Mental Health Auditorium. A motion approved a donation to the Mental Health Association of Iowa for the Canteen Card program. A reception will be held Sunday.

District UMW Plans Fall Meeting At Shenandoah Church

Council Bluffs District United Methodist Women will hold their Annual Fall meeting on October 4 at 1 p m in Shenandoah United Methodist Church. Mrs. Fred Wintle of Knox Indiana will deliver the keynote on Where Do We Grow From Here with election and installation of district officers. Mission Money flowers and special music featured. thirteen districts will hear Wintle Sept 19 to Oct 5.

Hillsdale Harvest Home Draws Wide Community Attendance

The Hillsdale United Methodist church held its 49th Harvest Home and Homecoming on Sunday September 18 drawing attendees from Glenwood Silver City Council Bluffs Pacific Junction and nearby areas. Rev Leon Wallace delivered the morning sermon on Harvest Home with music by Mrs. Marvin Boyce and Mrs. Robert West. A noon basket dinner featured fall decor and a lively song fest followed by talks reflecting on past Harvest Celebrations. Guest speaker Bill Perry of Area 13 Media spoke as Rev Laine A Mathiason sang with accompanist Mrs. Carl Buch. The event closed with a congregation singing God Be With You Till We Meet Again plans for a Golden Anniversary on September 17 1978 were announced.

Malvern Thirty-Niners Plan Pancake Supper

Malvern Thirty-Niners met September 22 at the Community building to celebrate senior citizen birthdays. Twenty four members attended with two guests, Elsie Archer and Anne Tatlin. Hosts were Leota Sutton, Marjorie Jones and Dorothy Churchman. They discussed plans for a pancake and sausage supper on September 29 at 5 p.m. with a freewill offering to benefit the Malvern Rescue Unit.

Tabor Senior Citizens invite the Malvern Senior Citizens to a noon potluck dinner on Tuesday Oct 4 at the Community building in Thurman attendees bring their own service. Martha Circle met with Mrs George Mort with good attendance and guests.

Town and Country Fair in Red Oak Oct 18

Mills county residents can enjoy games and prizes while learning energy saving, cost cutting, pesticide safety and more at the Town and Country Fair in Red Oak on October 18 at the 4 H Exhibit building. Sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service and southwest Iowa county extension services. A Home Energy Audit on insulation will be featured with mini presentations by extension specialists.

The Malvern Leader notes three mini presentations in the afternoon and evening titled Energy To Burn, Slice Your Food Bill and Saving $ in Home Sewing. Each session offers cost cutting ideas and alternative heating or fuel information. A small admission is charged to cover building rentals. children and students attend free.

New Extension Youth Committee Members Named for Mills County

Thirteen Mills county residents serve on the Extension Youth Committee to plan and carry out extension youth programs including the summer recreation program and the 4-H program. The 1976 77 roster includes John Paul as chairman and members from Glenwood Malvern Red Oak Hastings Silver City and Henderson with Bruce Bryant and LuAnn Bloomer recently replaced by Kay Henderson Shari Richter and Phil Steiner.
