Hillsdale Family Night Recalls Denmark Trip and Local Gatherings

Hillsdale Church hosts Monthly Family Night with 40 attendees enjoying a cooperative supper and program. Dennis Stacey of Glenwood shared Denmark photos, while Carolyn Hunt and Dan Lenz sang at the event. Numerous visits and small group activities across nearby towns highlight the community’s social calendar and 4-H awards, with residents from Malvern, Sidney, Tabor, and Emerson attending various gatherings and meals.

Hillsdale News Folks Attend Local and Island Events

Saturday night the Rohbergs and Kenton went to Mineola Church chicken supper then to Malvern for 4-H awards where Kenton earned a swine award. Frank Fay and children from Malvern dined with Earl Harman and Art Thieschafer families. About 30 people from multiple towns attended a cooperative dinner at Robert Shaul’s near Strahan. Other weekend guests included George Phelps of Harlan and Elmer Carlberg family. Florence Howard hosted Saturday visitors from Berwick and Conception Junction plus Griswold. Drayton Slaughter and Elmo Davis visited near Malvern last Saturday. Valett Phelps and family joined a Sunday dinner near Pacific Junction.

Prize Winners Install Officers at Mills County Meeting

The Mills County Prize Winners held their October gathering at the Methodist church in Tabor with Kathy and Karen Sell as hostesses. Officers were installed, and delicious refreshments were served by Mrs. Sell. Gene Fichter attended and plans to be assistant leader. The next meeting is family night on November 5.

World War I Veterans Meet in Sidney October 21

World War I veterans along with wives daughters mothers and sisters are urged to attend the seventh district meeting in Sidney next Sunday October 21. The event takes place at the Farm Bureau building southeast of the square with a noon pot luck dinner followed by the regular meeting in the afternoon.

Mystery Circle hostesses and social visits noted

Mrs. Altha Norton hosted the Oaks Mystery Circle gathering at Merrill Sowers home with eight members and four visitors. Devotions followed a Sunday school lesson. Several local residents and out‑of‑town visitors joined events including birthdays, showers, and suppers at multiple homes across Clarinda, Red Oak, Lebanon, and Omaha.

Harvest Home Services Held at East Lid

Beautiful weather graced the annual Harvest Home at East Lid with Silver City and Hillsdale participants. Duets by Caro lyn Hunt and Dan Lentz, and a message by Rev. Pullman framed a day of worship and fellowship followed by a cooperative dinner. Church election saw Mrs. Stotts and Ralph Skerritt named to chair and to direct secretarial duties.

Birthday surprise for Roger Craig at Glenwood

East East Liberty guests included Mr and Mrs Lyle Williams Shirley and Larry. They visited Roger Craig’s home in Glenwood on Wednesday evening for his birthday surprise. Mrs Charley Alexander joined Mrs Harold Terry and Mrs Iva Henderson of Malvern for a Friday trip to Council Bluffs for a hip X ray check and pictures.

Death of Former President Occurred in Oklahoma

Homer Mayberry received a call from his son William of Bixby Oklahoma that his mother Mia Louise Townsend had died in a Guthrie nursing home. Burial followed in Guthrie beside her late husband Townsend. Louise Stone Townsend a former teacher and librarian, active in church work, lived in several towns in Oklahoma and Mills County. She was nearing her 90th birthday December 1.

Fast Liberty Church Board Sets Harvest Plans and Study

The Fast Liberty Church board held its regular meeting Thursday with Rev. BE LeRoy Pullman as chair. Mrs. W C Stotts led devotions and reported the secretary and finances. Plans for Harvest Home Sunday were refined and Bible study on The Sermon on the Mount was slated for the next meeting on November 8. A family dinner at the Clark home honored visiting Benson family from Buena Park California.

WSCS Cleans Church and Seeks Traffic Signals

Ladies of the WSCS cleaned the Malvern church last Wednesday. A petition to add traffic signals at four corners north of Malvern is being circulated. Rev. Fullman celebrated his Oct. 12 birthday with the group. Mrs. Russell Howell of Silver City stayed with grandparents W W Windle and attended services.
