Spotlight on the Social Scene UMW Pins Awarded to Two Members

Malvern UMW met at the church Oct. 7 with 26 members and four guests. Jessie Wearin presided. Ruth Adkins and Genevieve Payne were to receive special pins. Adkins was absent. Mary Anna Hunt and Mae Rabbitt spoke as pin recipients from last year. Genevieve’s pin was pinned by Clara Stevens with Jessie assisting. Zelma Wortman led the program and invited Mrs. Stella Lisle to speak on Luxembourg. A brass vase was given to the church in memory of Mary Smith by her parents. Parsonage drapes will be hung Oct. 8 and carpet laid in the ladies dressing room soon. Rev. Cowell announced a turkey supper Nov. 16. Bettie Campbell and Florence Bowen hosted lunch on a fall-decorated table.

FB Women Feature Flower Arranging Theme in Mills County

The Mills County Farm Bureau Women’s Committee meeting will feature flower arranging led by Glenwood Malvern Florist representative. The open event takes place Monday Oct 25 at 1 30 p m in the Farm Bureau office Malvern with all area ladies welcome.

Mills County Arts Council Elects Officers

At a Glenwood meeting the Mills County Arts Council elected officers for the coming year. President Virginia Stinard of Glenwood, Vice President Phyllis Frederickson of Malvern, Treasurer Anita Bichel of Glenwood, and Treasurer Mavis Echting of Glenwood were installed. Members set annual dues at 5 dollars per person and discussed future projects. Next meeting is Tuesday Nov 4 at 7 30 p m with location to be announced. The Bill Rowe family of Glenwood will present the program.

Gipes Complete Color Photo Seminar in Minneapolis

Mr and Mrs Emmett Gipe of Gipe Studio Glenwood Mills county returned home after attending an advanced color photography printing and processing seminar in Minneapolis. The Gipes said they sought methods to deliver higher quality photographs to customers. The sessions were sponsored by Nord Photo Engineering Inc and offered free to professional photographers.

Ann Ewalt Installed as BPW Malvern Vice President

Ann Ewalt was installed as vice president of the BPW Malvern club by Marion Jones. The October meeting drew 21 members at the 4 Club. A Foundation program was presented by Marion Jones and Dorothea Graham, followed by a surprise baby shower for Ida Dixon and Dianna Burchett after business.

Rebekah Lodge Craft Carnival Oct 23 Red Oak Iowa

The Faith Rebekah Lodge No. 174 hosts the 4th annual Craft Carnival at the 1.C.C.F. Hall above Earl May Store in Red Oak Iowa on Saturday October 23. Exhibitors from Iowa and Nebraska will show and sell crafts gifts and baked goods. Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with no admission. Lunch by Red Oak Rebekahs all day. Hourly door prize drawings.

Strahan UMW Holds October Meeting in Malvern Village

Strahan UMW gathered nineteen members and three guests at the Malvern Village hospitality room for its October session hosted by Eleanor Lemonds Marjorie Williams and L B Reed. A Health In You program by Mrs Harold Swett and Mrs Charles Cowell, assisted by Rev Cowell, followed with refreshments of frozen fruit salad nut bread mints and coffee. Next meeting set for Wednesday November 3.
