Million Dollar Rain Strikes Mills County Causing Fire and Flood
A heavy weekend rain in Mills County brought more than two inches of precipitation and unleashed lightning causing a barn fire killing two horses at the Henry Evening home east of Malvern. Lightning also scorched the Anderson home near Calvert, split power poles, and sparked a small fire on the barn while a nearby telephone line was struck. The Nishna Botna River bridge at White Cloud washed away, a recurring fate for the structure, and widespread field damage followed as soil erosion and crop losses mounted amid a developing drought.
