Engagement Announced by Honeyman and Drake Families

Sue Honeyman and Ron Drake are engaged, with both sets of parents from Emerson and Red Oak announcing. Sue attends School of Nursing in Omaha, Ron works at American Beef Packers, and both are 1975 Red Oak Community High School graduates. A June 25 wedding is planned.

St Johns Ladies Aid Silver Anniversary Observed

St Johns Lutheran Hastings celebrated the Ladies Aid 25th anniversary with a silver tea in the church parlors. About fifty guests attended as Mesdames Ponton Leipold and Walker oversaw decorations and Diana Knop led the opening. Devotions were given by Axtell Scheel and Menschel with a Chrismans poster by Bowen.

Legion Auxiliary Christmas Meeting Potluck Dinner Dec. 19

Harry Hammons 520 Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary will meet at Mrs. Max Blackburn’s home for a December gathering with a gift exchange. It’s a potluck with own table service and spouse, gifts under $1 labeled by recipient. Deadline notes urge letters to Senators on Veterans Affairs Standing Committee retention.

Christmas Eve Service at St John’s Hastings

St John’s Lutheran Hastings will hold a Christmas Eve service titled Good News Great Joy at 7 p.m. on December 24. The event features the St John’s Senior Choir with organist JoAnna Perkins and saxophonist Dennis Grindle, directed by Peggy Phelps, and includes Junior Choir performances and a Luke and the Shepherds dialogue led by Bret Seipold, with Virginias Leipold and others. The public is invited to worship.

Couples Club Dinner and Gift Exchange at St John’s

The Hastings St John’s Lutheran Couples Club held a Sunday event with a 6 pm potluck dinner. Festive church parlor decorations were arranged by Mr and Mrs Jack Williamson and Mr and Mrs Creighton Miller. President Mrs Elsie Bruce led the business meeting and chairpersons for 1977 were elected, Janie Menschel and Grace Leipold. A guest, Alfred, provided entertainment.

Betrothed Miss Phyllis Elaine Frazee and James Harold Spicer plan a January 29 wedding. Frazee, 1973 Nishna Valley graduate and 1976 Tarkio College graduate, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sam McKee. Spicer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Spicer, is a 1969 Nishna Valley graduate and is farming.

Mrs Triveley Hostess To LTN Christmas Meeting

LTN annual Christmas dinner meeting held at Mrs Ray Trively's home on December 1 with help from her daughters Mrs Ellison and Mrs Volz. A short business session led by President Mrs Ralph Bower included a roll call on Christmas customs. Members approved sending four poinsettias to an ill member, decorated the home for the season, and distributed gifts from the tree. The tree bore twelve days of Christmas symbols and bingo followed the gift exchange. Hostesses named for the event were Mrs Maude Wilson Mrs Henderson Mrs Trively and Mrs Babbitt. The January meeting is canceled. February will be a salad luncheon hosted by Mrs Alva Henderson with each member bringing a salad and recipe.
