Central Oregon surveyors recalled to map route to Bend

Central Oregon surveyors returned to Madras last Thursday after two weeks of tracing a line north toward Shaniko. They were instructed to survey the Madras to Bend corridor carefully, with no further work northward until Harriman and Oregon Trunk Line plans clarify a possible rail connection.

Firesmen Report Record Oregon Forest Blaze Near Bend

Ireland, supervisor of the Deachurea national forest, said he witnessed the worst fire of his career near Bend. He described continuous flames with no let-up, burning about 11,500 acres across three townships. Timber mostly spared except underbrush, yet vegetation was wiped out in the affected areas.

Ranch foreman injury after horse throws him at Haycreek

Orval Davis, foreman for the B 5.4 L C at Haycreek, was thrown from a horse Friday at 5 30 pm after the horse stepped in a badger hole. He suffered a broken collar bone and multiple bruises and sprains but is expected to recover as the bone heals. Dr Belknap of Prineville responded after being alerted by telegram and arrived at the scene by auto.
