Harriman Survey Party Reported in Central Oregon

The Harriman group, believed to be in Harriman employ, camped at Youngs and moved toward Central Oregon to participate in railroad surveying. They followed routes from Aline up Trent creek to Sage Brush spring, then toward the flat, with Madras parties noting a survey line up Porter Spring canyon.

Early September Winter Hits With Record Cold

Accident on Horseheaven mountain injures Brogan family

John A Brogan of Axelandle drove a team that ran away down Horseheaven mountain on the Cherry creek side. Brogan suffered bruises while his wife and young daughter sustained broken legs and other injuries. They were found by Shrom ranch hands and brought to James Connolly's home where Dr King of Antelope treated them.

Bend Has a Young Lady Bear Hunter Grace Vandevert

Miss Grace Vandevert and her father W P from Lava pursued a bear near Bend. The dog driven chase led to a tree where Grace shot the brown bear, ending the hunt with a well aimed shot. The episode highlighted Grace as a notable young hunter in the community.

Barnett Seeks Oil Prospect Near Grizzly Slope

Dave W. Barnett of Culver visited the city yesterday to pursue an oil well on the West slope of Grizzly hutte. The New Star drilling machine arrived at Shaniko and will be hauled out for operation at the earliest opportunity.

Madras Crowded With Railroad Surveyors This Week

Ora VanTaseel reports Madras is overflowing with railroad surveyors. Every man has a transit and Willow Creek Canyon shows heavy traffic. He says the crowd is worse than Broadway or State Street in Chicago.
