Crook County Gives Taft and Sherman Big Majority

Crook county boosted the Republican ticket with about 850 more votes for Taft and Sherman. Overall county turnout was lighter than expected, and the county did not deliver as large a statewide majority as anticipated, especially beyond the east end where Taft and Sherman led roughly two to one.

New Court House Progress Report at Prineville

The county court met last Monday at Prineville and inspected the new court house. Contractor J B Shipp is ahead of schedule with progress to the tower base and clock dials. Rafters for the roof are being placed and work on cornices continues.

Taft Leads Bryan in Precinct Vote Count

In this precinct the election turnout matched the June county vote with 119 valid ballots. Taft received 108 votes, Bryan 48, Debs 16, Chatin 7, while Independent candidate Thisgen earned no votes. Ten ballots were discarded for improper marking.

Mouth of Deschutes guide F Crane and crew have finished locating the Oregon Trunk Line to a point opposite their camp. They will connect with T N Hanford’s party in about two weeks, completing the line from the mouth of the Deschutes to Madras. The survey runs along the Deschutes high above the river, crossing Nigger Brown canyon and Willow Creek canyon with a gentle grade to avoid river-level terrain.
