Strike Oil in the Dufur Country

The Bevis May Oil Company reports bright indications of paying oil at Ramsey Creek near town. Oil appeared in small quantities during drilling and gas bubbled at 310 feet. Porter, in charge, says the oil grade matches Pittsburgh oil and a large flow is possible. Drilling paused awaiting cap and small pipe to resume work.

Portland Names Its First Female Optometrist

Florence T. Cooper of 354 Clay Streetling passed the State Board of Optometry examiners in Portland and will receive a certificate to practice in Oregon. She is the only woman to pass the Oregon exams to date and plans to open in Portland after studying locally. Cooper, formerly Florence Parrish, is the daughter of Mrs. Rolando Parrish of Haycreek, and seven others took the exam with only Dr. Golden of Maine also passing.

Prineville Ends Prohibition Night With Quiet Dry City

Saloons closed at midnight on Tuesday sealing Prineville's dry status. No arrests or disorder reported as residents bought remaining stock for medicinal use. A Portland liquor house catalogue was delivered to every family, amusing ministers who laughed at the bid for Crook county trade.

Commissioner Leupp visits Warm Spring Reservation tour

Commissioner Leupp head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs visited the Warm Spring Reservation in Oregon, staying several days at the agency with Superintendent Povey. He traveled from Wapinitia to a Friday Saturday celebration with Indian races music and games before continuing to Dufur. The Warm Springs agency lies along Shitike Creek with electric lights steam laundry and water system and seats about 800 residents across roughly 30 townships.

Costly Celebration of Nation's Birthday

Married at Hotel Prineville in July wedding

Samuel P. Quinn wed Ora L. McKenzie on Wednesday in Hotel Prineville parlors. Dr. Dunsmore officiated in the Presbyterian church setting. They left for Grizzly Butte to start married life at the groom’s ranch.
