Will Levy Tax for School Purposes

An annual meeting of School District No. 22 at the Madraw schoolhouse is set for next Saturday at 1 p.m. to levy a tax for the current year. Last year an 8 mill levy covered bonds and expenses. this year the addition of grades increased costs, with the levy expected near 10 mills relying on more students to offset costs.

Drake Regains Bend Townsite in Central Oregon

A. M. Drake, Bend founder and original owner, reclaimed the Bend townsite and other Bend properties after the Central Oregon Development Company defaulted on deferred payments. Drake cites strong development potential for Central Oregon and upper Deschutes, asserting the region will gain transport facilities soon to boost growth.

Stanley Grewell Buys Ranch On Sagebrush

U S Grewell acquires 840 acres of land along Trout Creek north of Sagebrush from Mrs A J Priday and H L Priday. The former Cowles place includes a school section and 200 surrounding acres, with 20 acres of alfalfa. He plans stock, hogs, and cattle operations, taking possession next May, contingent on Harriman Deschutes line surveys.

Water at 72 Feet Hits Well in Wis Addition

John Loveall drilled a new well in the Wis late Snook and Lockard addition and struck water at 72 feet. Water proved ample for all household purposes with double the flow of nearby flat area wells. Ivan Hale drilled the Loveall well and has sunk several wells in the area.
