Harriman Engineers Move Camp South Toward Central Oregon

Harriman engineers under H J Roberts shift camp to Redmond South Tudalay near Culver to extend the Deschutes line toward Madras and beyond. Moved camps plan to connect with Milla's party and complete the route from the Deschutes mouth to Redmond and further toward Klamath Falls. O Brien of O R L & N says construction will reach Madras with contracts soon and begin by January 1 along the Deschutes canyon, possibly two years to Madras unless cost cutting is avoided.

Drilling to Start at Grizzly Next Week by Madras Oil

The Madras Oil Company will begin drilling at Grizzly on the West slope next week. Preparations include reinforcing the 8000 feet timber load and boosting the big derrick while the old equipment continues to 150 feet. If needed, drilling may reach 3000 feet with the new outfit. oil indicators are promising.

General Manager O'Brien of the Harriman system cites a four million dollar estimate for the first 100 miles from a Deschutes river mouth connection with the O K and N. Plans call for reaching Madras Bend and the Eastern Cascades, with construction to begin within weeks and continue through winter.

Sheriff Untangles Dry County Liquor Sale Order

Sheriff Elkins faced a court order to sell Estebenet liquor stock under an attachment in a dry county. Attorney General Crawford advised against disposal to avoid violating local option law, leading to disobedience of the mandate. The whiskey remains with the sheriff and may be shipped out of Crook county before any sale. Crawford says prohibition law bars sales in dry areas and has no provision for judicial sales.

Engineer eyes vast irrigation project at Silver Lake

E. E. Forshay a Boise civil engineer working for Miller Vale Salt Lake City and Samuel D Boone of Hailey Idaho visited Silver Lake and nearby areas to plan an extended irrigation scheme He claims to have appropriated waters of Silver and Thorn Lakes with rights to reclaim 185000 acres and to raise total to 400000 acres He plans to return in about two months with an engineering crew for surveys.

Windom Kills Rare Timber Wolf Near Culver

George Windom shot and killed a large grey timber wolf on his ranch near Culver on a recent Monday. The wolf trotted past the Windom home before a rifle shot felled it. at T1 inches from tip to tip, it is among the few wolves recorded in the immediate area.

The government judgment against Eastwood and Dee, filed three years ago, is fully paid at two thousand dollars.
