The Socialist candidate for Illinois governor Andrew Lafin will lecture on major national and individual issues. The event is set for Tuesday evening September 28 at 8 pm in the Macomb courthouse with a special invitation to ladies.
The Knox college fraternity Beta Theta Pi has let the contract for constructing their new house. The building is expected to be finished by this time next year and will stand on the former Christian Science church site at West South and South Cedar streets.
Service men and AIL ex service members are asked to meet Sunday at 2 15 PM at the Mainline undertaking parlors to attend the funeral of Comrade William Boyd. Services will be held at the Presbyterian church at 2 30 PM with uniforms worn.
Miss Siby Dunblazer of Ft. Smith Ark, known here, attends Normal school and now Knox College this year. Marshall Chandler from near Industry also enrolls as Knox student this fall.
The Macomb class of nursing will meet Monday at 7 30 PM at the First Presbyterian church. All members are urged to attend.
Connelly and Reynells of Gales bure drilled a oil well named 1A No 1. The well produced about twelve barrels per day and contained ten feet of oil. Drilling was overseen by superintendent Julius Ford.
A message from Mayor Charles W. Flack greeting Governor Gardner is read at the Rexall Druggist convention in St. Louis. Pigeons carried the greeting from Macomb and Bushnell, with birds released at 10 oclock. The event lists plans for a large pigeon derby and notes other city greetings.
Last week M. F. Pearce of Huntsville completed a deal trading his Huntsville store for the old Swisegood farm owned by Mr. Myers. Pearce has operated at that location for 28 years and remains in local business.
The body of William H. Boyd, 28, son of Mrs. Mary Boyd, arrived from France and died of injuries from World War I. Funeral at First Presbyterian Church Sunday at 2:30 pm, Oakwood Cemetery, American Legion in charge. Survived by mother and several siblings, with ties to McDonough County.
Fiatt baseball team prepares for a 3 PM game at Jennings Field near the east sewer plant with Murphy and Donaldson of Cuba joining the battery. Local fans expect a strong challenge from Crabbtown as word of a tough Flatt lineup circulates.
Macomb High School holds a 9 to 7 lead over Vermont at Normal Field at halftime. Bolan connected with Murphy for the halftime touchdown on a forward pass.
Charles Myers, six, son of I. M. Myers of Sciota, fractured his right leg while running home from school. He was taken to Holmes Hospital by Dr. Johnson where the leg was set and he is doing nicely today.
