Crabbtown faces Fiatt at Jennings Field next Sunday at 3 p.m. in a notable independent matchup. Batteries for Crabbtown include Douglass and Havens, as Fiatt strengthens its strong squad after a 1 1 tie with Colchester.
The Community Welfare Club of Industry will meet at the Christian church next Tuesday evening Sept 28 at 8 oclock. Members are invited to attend and participate in a program including music readings a recitation and an address on community good will. The event features orchestra chorus invocation and a business session with adjournment.
Campbell's orchestra provided the entertainment for one dance at Greenbush last night. The band has a return engagement scheduled there in two weeks.
Washington reports the Stars and Stripes is controlled by the Democratic committee while the American Legion Weekly is controlled by the Republican committee. Joseph Heffernan testified that Senator Edge’s right to participate in the Stars and Stripes probe was challenged, alleging he participated in conferences to block advertising. Richard S. Jones was named as the source of the information and subpoenaed.
B B Butterfield reported to the By Stander office a remarkable white ear of corn with eight distinct ears attached, weighing two pounds in total. He credited Wilson as the cause and predicted the upcoming election would favor that result eight to one, without naming a candidate. The corn grew on his farm north of the city.
H. J. Deems was driving near the John Ullrich place west of town when he turned to speak to a man in the back seat. In a brief moment the car veered into the ditch, the machine tipping against an embankment before righting itself and continuing on.
City Marshal Conlee arrested two strangers found burying nitroglycerin in Bull Hollow north of the Western Stoneware Company plant. About four ounces of nitroglycerine and six caps and fuses were seized. The men are held under U S Marshal orders in Springfield.
Scotti Callison of East Grant Street had a bicycle accident last evening when a wheel detached, flinging him into a barbed wire fence. His shirt and clothing were badly torn and he sustained several scratches.
Chicago Sept 24 Charles A Comiskey owner White Sox says he will fire any dishonest player and may close the park if needed. He criticizes Ban Johnson and says he received no cooperation from Johnson or the national commission in the effort to expose alleged crookedness amid a grand jury investigation of a gambling syndicate.
Entries rise for McDonough County fair livestock exhibits to be held September 28 29 30 at Bushnell. Officers prepare for a big show with the J G Loos shows as a midway attraction arriving Sunday noon from Peoria. The Farm Bureau will run an educational tent and member headquarters at the fairground.
Hampstead New York Sept 23 John W Hutchinson 77 who was in Ford's Theatre Washington the night President Lincoln was shot and one of a party of army officers who tried to capture the assassin is dead at his home here Hutchinson served as a lieutenant of federal cavalry in the civil war.
C A Swanson of Bushnell has come back from a six month stay in Sweden. He reports many changes but notes his old home remains similar to fifty years ago. He spent childhood days at the old home with a brother and sister still there. Building Fireproof at Bushnell. George Johnson a local bricklayer works on steel window and door frames for the John Brant building, aiming to make the new fireproof. G A R Reunion attendees from Bushnell and McDonough county join the encampment at Indianapolis Indiana.
T. J. Tuggle sold his West Washington street property to Mrs. Penny. He plans to travel to Minnesota to visit his two sons Thomas and James Tuggle who work in pottery there and may move to a suitable location in that state.
J M Pace travels to Greenwood Mississippi to attend the funeral of Chas Wright killed by a train yesterday. Services are set for 4 o clock Saturday afternoon in Greenwood.
The annual meeting for elementary and high school teachers in the region will be held in Galesburg Thursday and Friday October 14 and 15. Sessions include high school and rural teacher sections at the Armory with a full program arranged by Supt Chas M Gill of Quincy and section chairs. Reduced rail fares and advance enrollment cards are planned for attendees, and county Supt W F Boyes will announce final arrangements.
Mrs Sophia Seeley returns home after a month in Torrington Connecticut visiting her son Ray who works at a large manufacturing firm there.
John and Harriet Carnes of Sciota posted bonds after being charged with theft of an automobile tire. Paul Trancherell of Bushnell, sought by McDonough county officers for conducting a bawdy house, remained at large. Harriet Trancherell posted 500 bond and awaits trial next week. Paul Trancherell’s status is unsettled. Additional bonds and surities noted for related cases.
Waggoner beat Booth 1 up and Knight defeated Neece 3 and 1 in the Open championship. Thompson beat McGuire 2 and 1 and Pennington beat Downing 3 and 1 in the Third Cup semi finals. Thompson and Pennington meet Sunday morning for the final. Miss Dorothy Stinson wins the 1920 ladies championship defeating Edith Worrell 4 up 3 to play in an 18 hole final.
W H Leighty of Seattle Washington has been visiting in this county for several weeks and stayed several days with Mr and Mrs Sam Kee southeast of Industry. He then went to Macomb and will travel to Good Hope to visit relatives before returning home stopping at Quincy and Kansas City along the route.
