Harry Laughlin a 24 year old former Astoria resident is a federal prisoner at Peoria charged with stealing opiates from two doctors at Table Grove. He was arrested at Bushnell and brought to Canton jail before transfer to Peoria. Police say he concealed about 400 dollars worth of morphine and heroin tablets on his person. His mother resides in French Lick Indiana.
A self styled king of the musical world, known as King Rube, played his violin near the courthouse in Macomb today claiming his instrument cost 15000 in Chicago. Local listeners regarded his talent as over the heads of Macomb music lovers and questioned the price of the fiddle.
Through an error the By-Stander of Monday omitted the name of Mrs. Douglas McCaughey in the list of those who attended the meeting and luncheon Saturday of members of the county Democratic women's organization. Mrs. McCaughey was elected chairman for the city organization.

The tropical hurricane last night struck the Louisiana coast near Morgan City with wires down and trains delayed. Officials fear damage to sugar and rice fields as the storm menaces large plantations to the north.
Sacramento report says Senator Hiram W. Johnson endorsed Warren G. Harding for the presidency and praised his opposition to joining the League of Nations. Johnson noted Harding has scrapped the league, marking a shift for a former League foe in U S Senate.
Chicago report shows after expenses taxes and dividends totaling 9.6 million the Pullman company had 3.31 million left to add to the surplus fund from the year ending July 31 with total revenue of 14.52 million for the year.
J C Jolly completed arrangements and signed contracts with out of town orchestras to play every Monday night. For next Monday Stone's orchestra of Burlington will furnish the music and Harrison's orchestra of Canton previously provided entertainment to attract attendees from out of town.

Springfield hosts the Illinois Knights of Pythias annual convention to establish a permanent headquarters with the Pythian Sisters announcing the plan. In Paris, Finance Minister Marsal says France will cover the full $250,000 debt due in New York on October 15.
The Royal Neighbors held a regular session last night followed by a program of readings and vocal solos. Refreshments of ice cream and napabes were served and all attendees left late feeling the event was entertaining. A social is planned for the next meeting. John Leander left for Crawfordsville to attend Wabash College again this year. Fred Gordon also departed for Crawfordsville to finish his last year there. Clifford Sullivan returned from LaJanita Colorado after his brother Joe's illness. Joe is slowly recovering from typhoid fever.
A Macomb man who gave the name Burns attempted to fraudulently borrow an auto tire casing and inner tube in Rushville. After failing to return the item and facing a longer wait, he agreed to pay about $16 for the second hand casing to the tire owner.
James Hamilton Lewis former United States Senator accepts the Democratic nomination for Illinois governor at the state committee meeting in Chicago. He pledges to campaign as a spokesman for measures of public welfare and doctrines for the state’s betterment, appealing to all citizens beyond party lines.
The jury in Justice Falkenthal's court awarded Geo F E Little Co of Rushville $110 against Sypherd Piano Co for heat supplied to the Rushville branch during last winter while owned by Little & Co. Fight fans in Beardstown witnessed the Herman Kelly match and preliminary bouts before an enormous crowd. Ed Smith, sporting editor of the Chicago American, will render his decision in the paper tomorrow, with locals predicting a draw or Herman’s victory.
