A Chicago church hosts a series of events drawing local residents and visitors. Community members attend, participate in services, and engage in accompanying activities across the weekend schedule. Local organizers promote outreach and fellowship opportunities.
An incident on a city street ends with police reserves forming a barrier as a mob gathers near a doorway. Officers prevent further violence and move individuals to safety while the crowd disperses under pressure.
A large crowd halted at the station forcing police to push through a dense mob. Detectives attempting to leave the station reported difficulty moving amid the hostile demonstrators.
A thief snatched one white chicken from the Jolly Hotel rear roost at 4 am. Miss Rose Jolly alerted by the racket, a nurse from Phelps Hospital aided alarms, and the thief fled with a single white chick before being frightened off.
Due to high costs the senior class will publish an eight part magazine series titled The Spider Web summarizing the year’s activities. Each issue focuses on a scholastic activity month with notes on school opening football Thanksgiving Christmas basketball and seniors. Officers named Carroll Hounston president Louise Arnold vice president and Luann Hendee secretary-treasurer.
The fall session of the Rushville Presbytery opens this afternoon at 2 o'clock in First Presbyterian church Rushville. Rev H Harvey Mullen retiring moderator Rev John R Vance Macomb stated clerk and treasurer Rev Chas E Fisk Rushville pastor Rev W T Rodgers Macomb will attend the convention.
County Judge Chas. S. Imes is on a short vacation and will return to his office Friday morning.
A post card warning of a tomorrow blast at the New York customs house was mailed to William G. Edwards the revenue collector. Justice officials deem it a crank job while Edward P. Fisher arrives in New York in custody. Fisher claimed the warning was premotion and that more will follow. Alexander Brailovsky is released after being near the Wall Street blast as officials explain he was turned over to them.
William C. Towler of LaHarpe died at 3 30 a m Monday at Burlington hospital after his machine overturned three miles south of Stronghurst Sunday while stalling a rut. Companion Lloyd Duncan of Blandinsville suffered three broken ribs and later kidney damage. Towler, born September 27 1893 in LaHarpe, lived in Stronghurst as a boy and later returned to LaHarpe. He was married to Loraine Hollingsworth and leaves his wife and parents, W B Towler, in LaHarpe. He served in the army and belonged to the American Legion.
The grand jury finished work and will report to Judge Wasgner tomorrow morning. Springfield reports adjourned sessions of both the Constitutional Convention and the Republican State Convention ending quickly. Debates over bank loan rates prompt renewed calls for investigation and a pamphlet on convention progress is approved.
Ford Motor Co cuts prices to pre war levels effective immediately. Reductions range from 14 percent on motor trucks to 31 percent on small cars. Henry Ford says the move curbs war prices and profiteering and aims to restore normal business and prosperity, despite 146000 unfilled vehicle orders. Wages remain unchanged. A separate note reports Gale Osborn, son of Ed and Mrs. Osborn, returning home from Holmes Hospital after a street accident left him unconscious.
Harve Conelly and teams advance the tuberculosis sanitarium project with excavation complete and materials on site. About 100000 brick two gravel cars one sand car and one cement car are on the job with seven bricklayers currently employed. completion expected early next week.
The September term of McDonough county circuit court opened with grand jury action and early motions. Two divorce cases Ervin v Ervin and Fosdyck v Fosdyck were dismissed by complainants and minor matters settled by Judge Waggoner. The grand jury will convene for about three days with numerous cases awaiting deliberation.
Galesburg September 21. A fire at midnight destroyed nearly all of Williamsfeld’s business district except for a single garage. The blaze razed the post office and telephone exchange and caused property losses expected to exceed 4100,000.
Mr and Mrs James Matthews and Mr and Mrs Howard Matthews will leave Macomb Thursday for California. They travel overland by Ford and Willys Knight with Arthur Dark of Colchester and plan to settle in Los Angeles. Their many active county movements earn them friends’ best wishes.

Powell Breaks Leg in Dirt Track Crash at Lexington Nebraska. Archie Powell known as the Galesburg speed demon injured when his race car crashed injuring his leg between knee and ankle. Details pending. Mrs H N Powell notified by phone. Left For WardMont Nashville Tenn for school. Miss Helen Hainline and Misses Evelyn and Lucile Bonham headed to Ward Mont.
Mr. Allison of Good Hope is quite ill at his home with Miss Helen Marrs, a trained nurse, in attendance. Trade with advertisers.
Jane McCleary sues Glenn Ear nest McCleary for divorce in Adams County claiming desertion after a 1906 Macomb marriage and 1918 separation in Quincy. They have two children aged 13 and 11. Also includes a report of John Purdum suffering a deep finger cut by an axe while severing a chicken head.
The regular Campbell orchestra jitney dance is held tonight at Holmes Park.
