County Supervisors Debate Audits and Fire Escapes

County supervisors discussed auditing county officer books for the year ending December 1. The board authorized further talks with state authorities on fire escapes for the Alms House. A $50 appropriation was approved for the Farmer's Institute and the fiscal year tax levy was fixed at $56,006 to cover expenses.

Icar Turns Turtle Driver Injured In Crash

Jimmy Rexroat of west of this city was in a single vehicle wreck last evening about 6 oclock when his Ford overturned after a tire blew, three miles east of here. He was hospitalized with a scratched hip and hand but returned home this morning. He was alone and the car suffered extensive damage.

Moose Charter to be Submitted This Week

Dr. B. Martin Weiss, organizer of the Loyal Order of Moose, will submit the Ma comb lodge charter to the grand lodge this week. Ninety members of the local lodge have already been obtained. The organization at Bushnell has been completed and last Wednesday night several candidates were initiated into the order, about 100 members in that city. Arrangements are being made for a club room in Bushnell and Plymouth where a lodge was recently instituted. No rooms have been chosen for the local organization. Elmer Jackson of Bardolph Ralph Ausbury of this city and Ben Mendenhall of Vermont left this morning for Los Angeles, indefinitely. Frederick Warren joined elsewhere after accepting a position in Chicago.

Teen Learns at State University After Lombard Arts

Louis Ted Tiernan left Saturday for Champaign to attend the State University. He graduated Macomb High School and spent a year at Lombard College. Clarence Turk Maguire, son of Mr and Mrs Maguire of West Woodbury street, celebrated his eighth birthday Saturday.

Canvass Opens for Illinois Primary Night Races

Chicago reports the official canvass of the Wednesday primary began as Chief Clerk James Sullivan and a large staff tallied votes. Key contests include the Republican nomination for U S Senate and Governor with Oglesby leading Melkley and Small trailing with thousands of votes uncertain. Statewide canvass delayed by county certification slowness as officials prepare totals.

Nations council backs League in world peace drive

The International Council of Women in Christiana endorsed the League of Nations principle, per a message to President Wilson from Ida Clyde Clarke, head of U S women’s delegation. An auto race fatality occurred six miles north of Colorado Springs after a Denver Pueblo event, and Millerand agreed to run for the French presidency succeeding Deschanel.

Car Not Stolen After Sheriff Detains Ford Touring Car

A Ford touring car was temporarily detained by Sheriff E. L. Sapp yesterday afternoon at Good Hope for a suspected theft. It turned out the owner had traded for the vehicle and altered license numbers, retaining the original registration. The license book showed a truck license under the number, but the car attached to it was a Ford touring car.

Canning Factory Ships 400 Cases to Peoria

A Bushnell canning factory sent 400 cases of canned goods to Peoria. Each case held forty two pounds of vegetables and fruit, as produced.

Resident of County Home Dies Sudden

John Shaw, a resident of the Mc Donough County Home, died suddenly last night after angina. Coroner 8 B Russler conducted the inquiry per state law. Witnesses Superintendent Jones and William Broaddus testified Shaw had prior spells and described the death. jurors were John P. Burke, W. A. Bancom, Harry Fowler, George Nesbitt, Fred Dodsworth, and A I McElvain.

Veterans of '61 in annual meeting in Indianapolis

Thousands of Civil War veterans gathered in Indianapolis for the 54th Grand Army encampment. Special trains brought delegations from nearby states and beyond as the event opened with committee meetings and a welcome address by Governor Goodridge followed by a reply from Commander in Chief Daniel L. Hall.

Death of Bertha Morrow in Oklahoma Car Accident

Bertha Fern Morrow aged 22 formerly of this county was killed in Norman Oklahoma when a playful gesture by a passing driver caused her to be thrown from a milk-delivery car. Her burial followed in Norman and funeral services were held locally. she is survived by her parents, four brothers, and three sisters.

Fine corn samples shown by Tom Blam in dry weather

Tom Blam visited the By-Stander office Saturday with four excellent ear samples from New Salem township. The ears ranged from nearly a foot to slightly shorter by fractions of an inch and were well filled. Only one ear is soft enough to be frost sensitive.
