A 17 year old Gale borne of Bethel was badly injured in a road accident on Ottawa Road. Authorities reported the incident and transported the teen to a medical facility for treatment. Further details were not released.
A rider was found unconscious in the road near Griswold, later identified as Gale, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bethel. He was taken to a hospital with head and shoulder injuries after being struck by a car while riding with others nearby. Police investigate possible reckless driving and the driver’s identity.
Mrs Harley Todd and Jesse Steepleton of New Philadelphia and Dr Geo Aldrich of La Harpe were freed on $2000 bonds each after a preliminary hearing on auto theft charges. Alfred Krupps arrested in Carthage for stealing Henry Moellrings Ford. bond possible. Engine number tampering noted, defacement a felony with minimum $200 fine.
A county Republican women’s meeting is called for this evening in the circuit court room at the courthouse. It opens at 8 o clock with Mrs. John R. Camp of Bushnell presiding and district chairwoman Alice Curran assisting in organizing for primary day. All women are invited.
Riley Varey of this city displayed a 130 foot tall corn stock at his Maple Avenue rental plot. The lowest ear stands seven feet ten inches from the ground, a notable feature of the unusually tall crop.
Republican women of the city are called to a meeting this evening at 8 o'clock in the court room to discuss party affairs and civic engagement.
Two accidents in Macomb and Vermont left industry residents injured. Chas Brown of Vermont suffered a shoulder dislocation after a corn cob mishap then a car wheel failure caused a rollover. Glen Chockley of Industry fractured a leg when a buggy shaft came loose and the buggy overturned.
The By-Stander asks four readers to phone in presidential primary results as soon as township bulletins are learned. The effort mirrors a rapid AP record from last spring and aims to deliver early returns to subscribers by next Wednesday.
Dr. and Mrs. J. B. Holmes with Miss Ethel Suttle Misses Hicks and Easley began a trip in a Cadillac to Rochester Minnesota. They will stay a week to ten days at Mayo Bros hospital for treatment and rest.
The Western Normal school begins its term with enrollment likely large though not yet final. Instructors are present except for the printing and mechanical drawing chair, which will be filled soon. A full instructor list is to be published tomorrow.
George Erwin, formerly of this city and now with the K C M C railroad in Kansas City, is visiting family before heading to Chicago for a transfer to Burlington offices. Mrs Mary Stover Korn, Miss Margaret Anders, and others including Edwin Harris Ray Murphy and Gale Swango departed for Lombard college Galesburg to resume their studies.
Crabbtown defeated Colchester 6 to 4 Sunday in a high scoring game. Heavy hitting from Foster and Runkle led Crabbtown with Foster collecting a triple double and single across four at bats. Turner played for Colchester. both teams had players collide at third base resulting in brief injuries.
