The Woman's Missionary Society of the First Presbyterian church met at Mrs. B. F. McLean's home. Mrs. Herbert Bassett led the business session as the society plans a yearlong world tour starting with a Hawaii Japan segment presented by Mrs. James C. Burns. Edna J. Hill hosted Honolulu hospitality and Miss Hill received thanks for her Hawaii connection.
Three tons of grapes sold in two weeks by Frea Wiseman a Macomb gardener. He credited By-Stander advertising for a 100 pound order from Iroquois North Dakota. He notes he has none left to sell this season, so further ads would not yield sales.
Mr and Mrs John Wade of Kansas City have left after visiting relatives for two weeks. They will travel home via en route stops at Bloomfield and Burlington.
Karl Icenogle leaves tomorrow for Peoria to attend Bradley Polytechnic Institute to pursue a B S degree and finish manual training work. He previously attended Normal school here and has been teaching.
The Galesburg I O O F degree staff will confer the Patriarchal degree at the district I O O F meeting in Bushnell on September 25. A social hour will follow the routine business.
The Adams Express Co. will relocate to a new room in the Godowsky building on North Lafayette Street after the first of next month, near the depot for easier loading. The Eads Building will house operations until October 1, and Clough-Reihhms Co may discontinue its local business.
Ralph Leighty, taxpayer, files quo warranto appeal in the state supreme court challenging the validity of Community High School District No. 281 spanning Fulton, McDonough, and Schuyler counties. He alleges women voters invalid and election officials improperly instructed, and that the territory fails to meet legal compactness and county requirements.
Heavy rain halted a Rushville to Bushnell speaking tour for Republican candidates Col. C. C. Smith Julius Johnson and William H. Reed. The park meeting drew a large audience with three speeches and later a local child Keith Lovell injured his nose while playing with a whirley gig requiring three stitches at Holmes hospital.
Mr and Mrs Irvin Huston of Detroit Michigan arrived last night for a visit with Mrs Huston's sister Mrs Addie Hendee of South Lafayette Street.
Marion Ohio November 11. Campaign plans under discussion by party leaders include a speaking trip for the nominee to the Pacific coast with addresses in western states where senators are to be elected. It is also expected Harding will make four or five speeches in the East later in October.
J Hammond of Adair owns a 1902 Oldsomo model built like an old fashioned buggy. He remains progressive with other cars but still uses the buggy on some occasions.
Mr and Mrs W E Robinson of Medicine Hat Alberta Canada have been visiting W L Sorter’s home and left this morning for Marshalltown Iowa. They were accompanied as far as Galesburg by Mrs Sorter. Biggont sellers advertise.
Free Methodist conference ministers will occupy pulpits in city churches this Sunday as sessions continue this week. The schedule lists morning and evening services at M E Church First Presbyterian Jackson Street Presbyterian Woodbury Chapel and Free Methodist. Notable speakers include Rev J Ladue Rev F H Hall Rev B F Grigg Rev Homer Tanner Rev W H Lawson Rev J G Yeck and Bishop Warner with 2 30 p m Nax imo Conde. There will be no Sunday school at Woodbury Chapel and evening services feature Rev W D Cochran of Greenville.
The Colchester Redmen will face a Crabbtown Macomb combination Sunday afternoon at 3 on the Colchester diamond. Both teams have one win this season and Colchester boasts a strong record against tougher opponents. Bushnell canceled a scheduled game with Crabbtown earlier in the week.
The Campbell Bailey Hutchins circus performs today on the McWherter field near Plymouth. One show was held this afternoon and a second performance is scheduled for 8 o clock tonight.
Chicago sept 11 senators Edge and Reed clashed over Cox campaign charge substantiation as the senate committee on expenditures recessed. Edge says Democrats failed to substantiate Cox charges while Reed calls any opinion at the time indecent. Reed seeks subpoenas for Charles Piez and Wrigley and Barber to testify on Chicago fund drive.
Sheriff's force scanned all city traffic for a Ford owned by Henry Moellring of the Paloma area, stolen in Quincy at noon yesterday. A dealer’s license 4611 was associated with the vehicle as it eluded the search. A reward is offered. Phelps Hospital notes: Paul Graham, gunshot wound patient, improving and likely to be discharged soon. Mrs Jewison, Mrs Bissell, and Mrs Taylor recoveries after recent operations.
C H Phillips of 419 North State Street displays a sunflower in the Zern drug store window that measures 154 inches in diameter. He also grew another this summer 174 percent inches across and produced one and one half quarts of seed from it.
Mrs. Jones wife of the county superintendent remains seriously ill at her home with condition not improving as hoped.
