A burglar's visit to Mr. Franks residence ended with four 45 caliber shots fired by the intruder. The attacker fled after being spotted by a flashlight. No injuries were recorded to Mr. Franks, while a neighbor’s shot fractured Charles Wells’s skull, later treated with surgery and a hopeful recovery.
Memorial Day exercises to be held at 9 80 o'clock in the college auditorium with speakers including Robert D Buckley John Robert Lavester John Hinrichs Donald B Whitbh Henry Black and others. Patriotic music and reminders from G A R posts and Legion groups precede a community rally and services.
Riehad, 12 year old son of Mrs Roxie Stevens, was injured at home when a lawn mower cut off a toe. He was brought to Colmes hospital by neighbor William Heikes where the toe near the big toe was nearly severed and dressed.
At Ft Madison Iowa on May 29 two trainmen died when westbound Santa Fe No 1 crashed head on with eastbound No 4 near the Mississippi River bridge at 4 am. Engineer Otto Eaton of Chicago was killed, fireman A Vanloo seriously injured, and Dewey Taylor of Chillicothe Missouri also killed. J Wallace survived unharmed. No passengers were injured.
Pennsylvania will not honor Illinois physician licenses issued in 1921. The decision follows a probe into irregular licensing, with allegations of paid exam papers and certificates. Gov. Small discharged Isaac Platt of Chicago from the state pharmacy examiners board amid the investigation.
Macomb’s “Colts” edged Adair by 15 to 14 in a free hitting afternoon clash. Peek and Tuber starred for Macomb while Murphy and Randolph contributed for Roseville as the Warren county team returned to Macomb. Chas Pierpont and his family have moved back to Macomb after residing in Kirksville Mo.
Members of the Macomb Boys band will meet promptly at 12:50 p.m. tomorrow to participate in the Memorial Day observances.
Building activity in Macomb has revived after years of high prices. Contractors report work on homes garages and remodeling with carpenters plasterers painters and plumbers busy. Wet weather remains the main hindrance while lower material costs fuel optimism for summer and fall work. Wm H Worrell of Colchester returns to farm work after a nine month illness.
Detroit and Chicago reports indicate the United Brotherhood of Maintenance of Ways Employees contemplates a strike vote as the Railway Labor Board enacts wage cuts totaling about 48 million dollars for 400 000 workers effective July 1. Officials call the reductions indefensible.
Mr. Horrell commented during a By-Stander visit as he renews his subscription noting that the cal louses have not been out of his hands since the spring of 647.

Col. Stanley Ford and his son Tam left yesterday for Washington D C after a several weeks visit at the pace home with M and Mrs J M Pace and other relatives in town.
Four year old Robert Pollock, son of Mr and Mrs Chas Pollock of the Kbenezer church district, was knocked against a tree by a farm goat. He lost consciousness about a half hour, had a brain concussion, skull not fractured, and recovered quickly after Dr Howell treated him.
