A British steamer sank within twenty minutes after being struck. Irene Hummer was killed with his wife during an outing while a young daughter watched. The incident occurred as they fished at Fox River.
Police investigated a fatal shooting on the riverbank near Aurora where Eugene Trummer and his wife Bessie were shot. Witnesses described a fleeing car headed south between Aurora and Fox River as investigators recovered a vehicle and searched for the suspected gunman.
A bystander returns home to Orlando with a topper, Geo, B, and Mrs. Huston after a reported incident. The fragmentary text notes a residence in transit and the paper’s coverage of local events.
The Which state high school will hold commencement exercises May 29 at 8 o clock in the First Presbyterian church with Francis G. Blair State Superintendent of Public Instruction as speaker. The program includes processional, organ prelude, vocal duets, quartets, and diploma presentations. First honors and class colors blue and gold noted.
Macomb, Colchester, Bushnell, Industry, Plymouth, Rushville, Cuba and Canton lodge members enjoyed the 16th annual celebration of the 20th district in Canton. Next year’s meeting set for Rushville with 25 candidates receiving work from Bushnell, Macomb and other lodges. Grand officers praised the degree work and announced the 1923 district date to be decided later.
The Great Patterson circus train known as The Golden Rod Special arrived at the fairgrounds with 350 employees. Chief Purdum praised the organization for its cleanliness and order as work begins for tonight's crowd and a nightly 5 PM band concert on the public square.
Thomas Mahaney 43, released from Dunning asylum ten months prior, killed his aunt Mrs. Elizabeth Williamson 55 by slashing her throat at 7930 Maryland Avenue. His paralytic mother Mrs. Mary Mahaney was in an adjoining room during the attack. The husband and son were away at work when the crime occurred yesterday afternoon.
State auto inspector Geo M. Cole enlists The By-Stander to warn McDonough County motorists about headlight and speed regulations. He plans targeted patrols with an aide to pick up violators on different nights, promising arrests for those caught.
Acting Secretary of the Navy Roosevelt today denied the National Women’s Party request to use naval facilities for broadcasting an address at the dedication of the party’s new headquarters in Washington. The denial rests on the ban on naval radio use for political purposes.
Ninety eight people are missing and 24 saved after the British steamer Egypt sank following a collision with the French steamer Seine in fog off Ushant. Only a few lifeboats could be launched due to list. passengers and crew feared drawn down as the ship foundered with no one aboard at plunge.
The Macomb Gun Club organization attracts many of the city's leading marksmen as it forms. The range will sit at the Tiernan brick yard and an opening shoot is planned. Traps will be priced this week and visiting reps from leading powder firms are expected to demonstrate. Joe Blume, a former gun official, may visit to show technique. Also noted is Grow Hall's croquet ground on South Lafayette street with an electrified 40 by 52 foot court, built by Mr. Hall with a concrete retaining wall.
