A local police report confirms the arrest of Od Hope, described as a jail faker, in a case tied to the town of Monninger. Details indicate a staged confinement scheme uncovered by authorities.
A man named Monninger, 21, from Good Hope, connected to an escape from jail on the morning of the 20th, has been recaptured in Iowa. Authorities say he fled across states and Canada after a Burlington incident and is now in custody with plans to be brought to trial.
The Eleventh grade basketball team defeated the 9A group 28 to 12 to claim the inter-class tournament honors. Semi finals had 11th graders beating the 9A team 14 to 7, while 9A beat 9B 16 to 7. Third place went to the Tenth graders after they defeated the 9B 24 to 18.
Mrs. Mary Korn nearly died when gas fumes from a water heater rendered her unconscious in her parents home on South MacArthur Street. Her mother’s timely entry to the room saved her from possible death by gas or drowning as winds pushed fumes back into the bathroom. Chicago March 29 Will Reed Dunroy poet and press agent died last night from wood alcohol poisoning. He had not drunk for years but asked a friend for a drink to cure a cold. Dunroy, 45, once protege of William Jennings Bryan who financed his University of Nebraska education.
Bandits shot and killed James A. Myers, the bank night watchman at Stewart, southwest of Des Moines, then fled in a car they abandoned in the city. Authorities report the robbery yielded only ten dollars.
Chicago report recalls a sensational murder case where Harry H Ward 23 shot and killed two men wounded another and struck a policeman with a hammer during a hut store hold up. He faces execution on April 22 after a jury convicted him.
Berlin reports renewed fighting after a brief collapse in the communist uprising. More than sixty people are reported killed as clashes erupt in sections between Leipzig and Halle, with train service between the two cities suspended.
