The McDonough County Orphanage reports ten children currently housed with thirty in residence or on loan. A $2000 donation from a late generous citizen will form a permanent fund for facility improvements, memorializing his memory for future generations. John Graves presides, Rose B Jolly secures.
Prairie City residents are called to a town hall meeting at 8 pm to consider organizing a Live Stock Shipping association. Spafford Orwig will preside, with Harry L. Hawn as secretary, as local farmers respond to a countywide push for broader livestock marketing options.
Certified checks were returned to all bidders whose bids were not the lowest on state aid road bridge work in the county. Bids opened February 18 by the state highway commission. no delay in awarding contracts is known. Work covers Eldorado Industry Blandinsville Tennessee Colchester and Emmet townships totaling about 15000 dollars in three units.
J. M. Hare, a coal dealer, had a classified ad in the By-Stander for coal house and outbuildings for sale. He says the ad drew so many inquiries it kept him awake and led to a decision to discontinue it. He notes strong results from newspaper advertising and explains he did not stop earlier due to a perpetual reminder from prospective buyers.
In White Plains New York a divorce suit against James A Stillman president of National City Bank of New York alleges his wife Mrs Anna Stillman bore a child by an Indian guide The claim was made in court with alimony and counsel fee requests while the Stillman family is described as socially prominent in America The case is defended by Mr Nicolls and the court reserved decision.
Carl Neuf and Fred Zimmer American detectives were found guilty in a German criminal court for attempting to arrest draft evader Grover C. Bergdoll last January. Neuf received 15 months and Zimmer six months in prison. Four German accomplices drew terms from five to eleven months.
By Associated Press Baltimore March 23 Cardinal Gibbons is reported in critical condition. He is conscious only part of the time and virtually all hope for his recovery has been abandoned.
Berlin on March 28 reports Communist workers seized the administration buildings of the Blohm and Voss shipyards in Hamburg and raised the red flag. Workers at other shipyards quit work and organized mass demonstrations, according to the Hamburg dispatch.
The past quarter saw twenty or more Normal students expelled for lacking honor points a passing grade in required subjects. This exceeded previous quarters with only a few expulsions. Licensed To Wed Arthur R Fowler and Marie McKee listed.
Paris reports Germany in its reply to the reparations commission refuses to pay 1 billion marks due and disputes the commission figures showing 12 billion marks due May 1. Berlin proposes a joint expert commission to value deliveries and says paying 12 billion by May 1 is impossible with a readiness to discuss a possible foreign loan after expert talks.
Springfield reports both houses adopted a building probe resolution after a morning conference. A rents inquiry was withdrawn. The 14 member commission will begin duties at once, likely meeting in Chicago Friday with Sen Dailey of Peoria expected to head it. Members include Cornwell Kes singer Turnbaugh Essinger Sullivan Denvir Pierce Bippus Curran Lyon Devine Ryan Wilson. The panel has nine Republicans and five Democrats.
City court jurors called for the March term were told not to appear Monday as non jury cases took the day. Debate centers on whether jurors receive pay for a day they did not work with opinions split between entitlement and denial by Judge A B Puhr.

Hampshire breeders gathered at the Farm Bureau office to organize the McDonough County Hampshire Breeders Association. J. H. Lindsay was elected president with M. L. McGaughey, Fred Pollock, James Provine, and others as plans form for county fair promotion, a Spring Gilt Club, breed sales, and an autumn Hampshire tour.
Mr and Mrs Roscoe Rost and babe depart for Pulaski Tennessee to establish a new home. Rost sold his local residence and his Edison shop interest to manage a jewelry store for his former employer in Pulaski where he met his wife, a local Pulaski native.
James Herron past president of the New York City Rotary club will guest tomorrow noon at the Macomb Rotary luncheon in the Christian church. Herron poet lecturer and humorist will speak on Rotary principles. Delegations from Monmouth and Galesburg Rotary clubs expected to attend.
Two cars of corn are being loaded on the T. P. W. tracks in the county’s north part. The load totals about 200000 pounds, roughly 13400 bushels, as part of farm bureau effort.
