Mack Foresman, a Bardolph native and one of the first McDonough area soldiers to die in France, will be laid to rest in his home community after his body arrived in New York. He enlisted Oct 7 1917, served with Company F Sixth Engineers, aged 24, survived by his parents and two sisters Lena M. Foresman and Mrs. L D Hittle.
The Interstate Commerce Commission said Engineman Long and Fireman Block on the Michigan Central train failed to observe signals, causing the Porter Indiana wreck that killed 37 and injured 20. The bureau urged automatic train control to prevent such failures.
Harve Cordell of Tennesse township was yesterday morning declared insane in county court before Judge C. I. Ines and was taken by relatives to the state hospital for the insane at Bartonville this morning. Doctors W. W. Hendricks and B. D. Jenkins served on the medical commission. Cordell has shown mental deterioration for about three years following injuries from a runaway incident and two heart strokes. He has imaginary enemies and often remains quiet and uncommunicative.
Springfield March 22 Former Senator Lawrence Y Sherman endorses Justice Floyd E Thompson for re election to the Illinois Supreme Court from the Fourth District He argues impartial justice matters more than party politics noting the court now leans Republican and praising Thompsons abilities and character He would vote for Thompson even if he were in his old district.
Berlin reports Germany will not pay the billion gold marks demanded before March 23 to satisfy reparations. The reply, drafted by the government, will be presented within forty eight hours as the deadline nears. Reparations officials say Germany has already paid twenty billion marks, while allies estimate payments up to eight billion marks.
Berlin reports Germany secured a decisive plebiscite victory in Upper Silesia with 875000 votes for Germany and 389000 for Poland, across about 6000 square miles rich in mineral deposits.

Springfield dispatch reports the Fifty-second general assembly faces its first issue as Representative Clark of Decatur introduces a bill to compel all commercial activities to remain idle one day each week. The measure covers stores factories restaurants telephones telegraphs amusements and transportation lines and requires employers to post notices designating the rest day.

Gale chair of the Revenue committee at the Constitutional convention predicted Illinois taxes for 1921 may reach 9.75 dollars per 100 of valuation or about 80 percent above 1920. He projected total tax collection for 1921 near 200 million dollars and over 350 million for 1922. The forecast will be discussed at the Illinois Manufacturers Association conference in Chicago on March 25.
