A Saturday night event at the Athletic arena in Macomb ended with a near riot as wrestling performances drew a large crowd. Fire and police helped quell scuffles when tent ropes and canvas collapsed. organizers claimed the show broke even despite objections from locals.
Robert Knox College athlete and former star at Knox in Galesburg was instantly killed when a plane piloted by A Newsome cork rolled and crashed near Okla. He had been a stunt flyer and had recently survived a prior crash near Galesburg without injury.
Macomb will publish a new city directory within the next month. Hackman Directory Company of Quincy completed the canvass of residence and business areas and will print cloth bound books in Quincy with surplus copies. The local manager notes many homeowners and few rented homes in the city.
Two car loads or about 12 000 gallons of oil are expected to arrive within a day or two to oil the unpaved streets of Macomb. The Commercial Association requires guaranteed funds before work begins with block captains responsible for payment. Several blocks had been finished recently with satisfactory results.

C A Kerr of Indianapolis visits his uncle C F Williams at the Williams home. Kerr heads a shipping department at a large factory that manufactures musical instruments. Williams is described as a former Indianapolis resident.
Ten thousand union officials converge in Chicago to decide on railway labor board wage awards amid potential action. Talks center on whether to refer to members for a referendum or await final union action as two million workers seek raises exceeding one billion dollars. Meanwhile in Marion Ohio Republicans prepare for Harding notification and Cox campaign plans unfold.
Cork on July 19 witnessed attacks on military lorries carrying English soldiers. Civilians bombed a nearby town, injuring sixty to seventy. Earlier, Cork saw a night of terror with street fighting between the military and Sinn Fein, leaving two dead and forty wounded, pushing total casualties over a hundred.
London reports a note from the Russian Soviet government stating readiness to agree to an armistice and to make peace with Poland. The communication was received by the British government on July 19.
Richard Jolly returns home to Galesburg after visiting grandparents Mr and Mrs T J Jolly. The family, including Roy Murphy and his wife, plans a western coast vacation for Mr Murphy who recently sustained injuries from a fall near Galesburg while at work.
Dessa Matthews Fred Danley and Hiram Carey of this city were arraigned before Justice Falkenthal and pled guilty to intoxication. Each was fined five dollars and costs and released on promise to settle. They allegedly caused a disturbance at the carnival Saturday night and swore at an extra policeman. Matthews was jailed for several hours. Danley went home. Carey was arrested today by Chief Dark.
Representatives of American Legion Posts in the fourteenth district met at Monmouth to finalize a new district organization. Attendees from Macomb Monmouth Bushnell Blandinsville Carthage Roseville Aledo Alexis Moline Rock Island elected Dr G W Clarke of Roseville as president and chose C Earl Flack and A J Leander as Macomb delegates.

A. J. Leach of South McArthur Street says C. E. Asher has nothing on him regarding home grown fruit. He announced last week he picked three dozen fine Alberta peaches from a small tree at his home and has also had roasting ears from his own garden.
Thirty-one eighth grade students received diplomas during the Normal school exercises this morning. Twenty-six were from the Normal training school and five from country school eighth grades. Addresses by Professor Rupert Simpkins and Miss Caroline Grote followed by a class photo. Class play Rebecca of Sunny Brook Farm to be shown tonight. admission free.
