Kent Hicks from McDonough County lies in a small French cemetery near Bulson along with four comrades killed by the same shell while asleep in a torn village. Russell Cello, a lieutenant and Monito Hosiery salesman, reported the burial and noted the Blandinsville man’s Elk lodge record. Hicks enlisted early, joined the 149th Artillery in 1917, went overseas in October, and died just before the armistice.

A city telephone office, through the efforts of operators, traced a carnival monkey reported by a resident. The operator relayed calls to locate the animal, and a carnival man retrieved the native from the yard and returned it to its home under the big top.
