The Institute of Meat Packers reports a four million pound drop in U S meat production over the last six months versus last year based on 2 5 million fewer cattle hogs and sheep slaughtered at 69 markets. Prices for hogs and pork are lower as exports shrink and producers cut herds, risking longer term shortages and higher consumer prices. June beef steer prices in Chicago reach near wartime highs at 14.05.
Chicago July 20 six hundred million dollars were added to the pay envelopes of the nations two million railroad workers in the first award by the United States Railroad Labor Board. The board approved about 60 percent of the unions demand for increases totaling near one billion. The decision raises about 21 percent of current pay. Leaders of sixteen unions and 1 000 chairmen convene to discuss acceptance as union presidents defer comment pending referendum.
County highway crews under W M Bonham continue upgrades from the city to Colchester and other routes. South Bethel township gains an eleven mile stretch from Fandon with a three week plan, weather permitting. Five of eight Bethel culverts near the Stone King store are done, with more grading underway and bridge work to be let in Eldora do New Salem Mound Macomb Sciota and Blandinsville at an estimated eight thousand dollars. Groundwork on Grindstone creek Bethel township nears completion and a hulvert north of Runkle schoolhouse Industry township starts to replace long neglected sections by day labor.
Morris Piros of Quincy plans remodelling of a newly purchased building near the Blount pottery site to establish an up to date factory. The project includes a saw tooth roof and skylights with local contractors bidding on the work.
Congressman McKinley and C L Lowery were at the Pace hotel last night meeting friends and discussing the political situation. McKinley is pursuing the Republican nomination for U S Senate.
A man named Ile suffered an attack in August 1919 thought caused by overheating. His family includes eleven members with wife Mary Bell and ten children, seven of whom live with the parents at Bushnell, highlighting a severe hardship scenario.

New York July 20 Babe Ruth star of the New York Americans belted his 32nd home run of the season off Pitcher Faber in the first game of a doubleheader with Chicago. The ball cleared the right field stands with no runners on base as Ruth extended his major league record. He had previously tied and then surpassed last season’s 29 homers.
John Bell, 56, was declared insane at a county hearing before Judge Chas I Imes. He will be taken to Peoria State Hospital by Sheriff FE L Sapp, after a episode that included wandering the area and a dangerous ride in front of a train. Medical examiners Drs. S S Allen and C E Knappenberger testified.
Dr. Charles Alden, former Universalist pastor of this city and noted Elk, gave the flag day address at Columbus Lodge No. 37. He read an original poem dedicated to the lodge, praising fraternal service, charity, and the nation, with references to the Star and Stripes and the Lodge of Rest.

Mr and Mrs Banus Curliss of this city welcomed a son this morning weighing nine pounds twelve ounces. The birth was announced in the local paper, noting the happy event in the Curliss household.

Macomb may gain a new factory as Magic Compounding Company weighs locating here. S. A. Thompson and R. Isaac Empoy tour Galesburg resources and will report findings on return, with a likely formal plan announcement.
Knowles has taken a Macomb office position with the Macomb, Illinois and Louisiana railroad company, M I L. The move places him in a supervisory role overseeing regional operations and customer service activities.
