In a reported incident a resident was found dead in his bed by his brother. Police were called to the scene for investigation and preliminary details remain undisclosed.
McQuistan a long time Me county farm resident and notable figure in Scotland township was found dead in his bed about 9 am. A coroner jury ruled death on natural causes. Funeral services set for Wednesday at 2 pm at the First Presbyterian church with interment in Oakwood cemetery.
James Spainhour of 259 South Dean Street Bushnell was injured early Saturday while clearing a wreck on the Beardstown division of the Q tracks. A badly bent rail pinned his right leg, breaking both bones, and he was taken to Holmes hospital in Bushnell and then here. He will be unable to use the leg for weeks. The accident followed a broken drawbar that caused fifteen coal cars to derail while removing coal from the tracks.
The Decatur Illinois school system announces National School Week from December 5 to 11. The local school board urges churches clubs businesses and civic groups to hold discussions on education. A mass meeting at the high school Friday features J O Engleman as speaker followed by an open discussion on local school needs and improvements.
Mrs A B Campbell returned home this afternoon after a severe operation at Holmes hospital. Her rapid recovery impressed Mr Campbell who stayed at the Soldiers Home in Quincy and visited with his wife. The By-Stander expresses appreciation for the hospital staff. Mr and Mrs Joe R Curtiss of Chattanooga Tennessee left for home after visiting the Brockway home on East Carroll street. Curtiss is a Macomb native remembered by locals.
To Texas to Work John Avery of this city left this morning for Fort Worth Texas where he will be employed this winter on construction work.
George Boyd identified as the man who fired on and killed Sheriff Petray and two detectives in a Santa Rosa pistol fight following a San Francisco raid on a Howard Street house. Five men were jailed on bonds of 140000 each as police sought others tied to a group that groomed and abused young women.
Bonds of 200 dollars were filed with County Clerk John G. Norton for appealing the Holler will case to the Circuit Court after Judge Chas S. Imes in probate court refused to admit the alleged will of Eli Holler. The lone heir sought probate while other heirs urged administration to share equally. The appeal likely heads to a January term.
The Macomb Country Club invites all members to attend the annual meeting this evening in the Macomb Commercial Association rooms. Several important matters will be acted upon and discussed.
A crash near Cottonwood corner south of Bushnell sent a Ford tumbling three times into a ditch. The vehicle sustained wheel and fender damage and a damaged windshield, but no injuries were reported to any occupants.
McDonough County’s four newly elected officers began their terms after the November 2 vote. Circuit Clerk Will B. Martin added a new stenographer Miss Mildred Marrs. bonds posted by Martin and others for office. Coroner B. Russler, State’s Attorney Andrey L. Hainline, and County Surveyor Cephas Holmes also noted. Also reports a Retail Merchants Bureau meeting at 7:30 p.m. and Nimble Dollar sale at Crane store in Bushnell with Christmas promotions. License to Wed notices list several couples including Richard Lu Mansier and Pearl Lenla Wells.
Crowds attend the fourteenth annual memorial exercises of Macomb Lodge No 1009 B P O Elks in Monmouth. Exalted Ruler Townley presides with Safford of Monmouth delivering the principal address. Music by Campbell orchestra and Martin male quartet accompany tributes to members who died from 1907 to 1919. Brothers who died in World War I noted. Mrs J B Workman of Twin Falls Idaho leaves for Chicago after visiting here.
