Lynden district residents are urged by Arthur B. Mer deputy collector of internal revenue at Bellingham to file income tax returns. He explains farmers often lack records of receipts and expenses, risking higher taxes. A canvass will identify delinquents from 1915 and 1918 with penalties for evasion.
The Clam Diggers Club of Lynden held its annual session to celebrate Washington State birthday with two jumbo meals and history. Officers were re-elected, led by Ed Edson, and a poem reading by W. H. Baker highlighted the event. Dozens of local members and families attended, sharing reunions and memories.
Report to Marshal Jake Le Compte states four dogs were killed in Lynden over a few days. Among the victims were Louis Larson’s aged bird dog and Miss Smalley’s longtime black dog, a family pet nearly nineteen years.
Mr and Mrs P J Van Hemert returned Tuesday after a three month visit in the East. They traveled to Ohio then on return visited Mexico and California. Miss Ada Baldwin will depart this week for a vacation to Seattle and Vancouver.
Born to Mr and Mrs Edward Telsenhoff a son Monday.
A jolly program will be presented by school classes tomorrow night as part of the holiday entertainment in the auditorium. Students from several grades will participate in songs dances and skits showcasing community spirit and school pride.
Lynden High School boys defeated Mr. Baker 48 to 6 while the Lynden girls beat Mt. Baker 18 to 14 in a Friday road game. Town team wins by a point as Lynden prepares a school program with 25 and 35 cent admission.
Dr C H McLeod heads a newly formed Lynden Teachers Association as it joins the state organization. Mrs W H Elder is vice president with Mrs D L Beckes secretary and Mrs William Lauckhart treasurer. By laws set, 50 cent annual dues, monthly meetings on the second Tuesday.
Park Fund committee in Lynden requests payments at First National Bank for the purchase of a public park. Treasurer W B Vander Griend urges donors to send checks promptly as the group closes subscription lists. Funds will cover park grounds, maintenance, equipment, swimming pool and playground improvements.
A Petersons auto stage overturned on the Guide Meridian road between here and Bellingham while passing a Ford. No passengers were injured. The Ford driver swerved into the center to allow the stage to pass, sending the big car into the ditch.
Lynden’s 1920 21 basketball opener features the town team against a Nooksack Mt. Baker pick five and the girls face Mt. Baker high. Coach Fisher aims for twelve strong players in the league, with Nov 25 debut vs Bloedel Donovan. Rules limit Whatcom County residency and roster changes after Nov 25 and enforce conduct in venues.
E Whited this week sold his Lynden Cafe to A Collins of Snoqualmie an experienced restaurant man. Collins has already taken over the establishment. Whited will remain in Lynden with his family for the present.
Ike Elenbaas injured his wrist Friday while starting a balky Ford. He is resting easy now.
R A Johnson of the Palace Hotel reported Tuesday that while driving on Glendale road he struck Harold Rathke who was riding to school on his bicycle. The boy turned to pass a truck and was struck by the car coming toward him. He was not injured. The accident occurred in front of the Ray Smith farm.
The American Legion boys hosted a military ball Friday night at the I O O F hall. The hall was decorated with Stars and Stripes and service flags, bunting on the walls, Boerhove's Orchestra provided music, and refreshments were served.
Lynden district aims to match peace time Red Cross membership. By last night 325 had joined and paid the collar fee. canvassing continues until November 25 with teams led by Marie De Jouge Corneal Lindhout Ruth Bauman Harold Bennett Cressa Vinup Henry Hofman Rita Jamieson and Lois Whited.
A surprise party honored Mrs H Zuidersma on her seventy fifth birthday Tuesday afternoon. Attendees presented many beautiful gifts and a dainty luncheon followed the pleasant gathering.
butterfat prices rise by three cents marking the second increase in a month for Whatcom County Dairy Association members The first half of November yields 61 cents a pound for butterfat and 210 dollars for milk with skim milk available The new raise boosts all these figures and adds more income for the dairy members
Evening services at First Reformed Church on Grover Street summarized by the Christian Endeavor Society. Rev. H. K. Pasma will preach on Gods Mysterious Choice and Attorney R B Le Cocq will discuss The Spirit of the Pilgrim Fathers marking the 300 year anniversary.
The Sumas Women’s Study Club visited Lynden on Wednesday afternoon. Thirteen ladies attended the event with a vocal duet, a reading, and a group recital of Reveries of a Bachelor. Refreshments followed as Sumas members joined Lynden attendees.
The Wiser Lake Ladies' Aid hosts an annual bazaar on Saturday evening December 4 at the Wiser Lake hall. Dr EB Mathes will present an illustrated lecture on France and a supper will be served. Everyone is invited.
Miss Marie Van Wyk, who has been visiting here for four months, departed Monday for her home in Hardin Colorado.
Miss Mary Bauma sprained her ankle while playing basketball on Monday in a local gym. The incident occurred during a community game and will require medical assessment.
