1000 Hens Die in Early Morning Poultry Fire
A fire destroyed the new poultry house of H. Ripperda early Tuesday, burning 1,000 hens and causing an estimated $4,000 loss. The cause is unknown after reports that gas lighting was off at night. The blaze damaged the henhouse, two stoves, six egg crates, and stored grass seed. no insurance was carried.

Beernink Pen Takes Third Lynden hens placed third in the Western Washington Egg-Laying Contest ending Nov 1 in Seattle. Lady 136 owned by Harry Beernink laid 296 eggs in 12 months, with top two at 312. Values totaled $12.153 for Lady 136, $12.898 for the winner, and $12.715 for second.
