Marius Van der Griend Sr died late Saturday morning at seventy one and was buried Tuesday in Monumen ta cemetery. At the Christian Reform ed church he received a large funeral with Rev. P J Hoekenga and Rev. J G Brouwer officiating. He was born April 24 1842 in Barendrecht Netherlands. He married A S Vaandrag er in 1868 and had eleven children. He came to Armour South Dakota in 1886 then Nebraska before settling in Whatcom County Washington in 1901. He leaves a wide family with twenty five grandchildren and all but one son and one daughter married. He worked as a farmer and was celebrated as a Christian, loyal citizen and exemplary father. The community offers sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
The Lynden Volunteer Fire Department announces a grand celebration at Hawley's Park on Wednesday June 4 marking one year since its founding. An athletic program is planned with 25 cent admission. Committees led by Waples Bauman and Pixley organized the event to boost morale ahead of the department's second year.
