A new schedule modifies Lynden train times with the Sunday morning service leaving at 8 45 a m to Glacier, returning from Glacier at 4 40 p m reaching Lynden at 6 21 and departing for Bellingham at 6 40 p m. Weekday departures from Lynden are 8 45 11 00 a m 2 45 and 5 46 p m with arrivals 4 minutes early.
Lynden Volunteer Fire Department set a Decoration Day picnic at the Ballpark on Friday afternoon May 30. The program includes games and athletic sports and a committee of W. H. Waples A. A. Bauman and W. K. Pixley will make arrangements. Three new members were added to the active roll.
The Kensington Club was entertained Thursday evening at the Sampley home by Mrs. Charles B. Sampley and Mrs. Theodore A. Serrurier. Spring blossoms decorated the rooms. Twenty people attended the Five Hundred game, and at eleven o'clock elaborate refreshments were served with tiny garden implements as favors. Guest Mrs Cloud, a former member, attended. The club plans to meet tomorrow afternoon with Mrs. T. L. Wood.
Public auction at the county courthouse last Saturday sold state lands to three buyers. W R Loop bought the northwest quarter of the southwest quarter in section 16 township 40 for 1900, above appraised value by 900 dollars. J G Bodine secured lot 7 in section 36 for 3205.60. B N Hutchenson purchased lots 1 and 2 in section 16 township 40 for 2425.
On May first at the Spaan home Mr Frederick Polinder and Miss Corne lia Spaan wed in a ceremony led by Rev P J Hoekenga. The reception followed with 69 guests at lunch and 74 at a festive evening, with poetry gifts and a banquet. The couple plan to live in a new bungalow on G J Polinder river bottom farm.
J Rypperda Wierdsma Holland American Line managing director examined Seattle harbor and terminals amid talk of a Rotterdam to Seattle route via the Panama Canal. He gave no firm plan but suggested growth potential for freight passenger service and Northwest immigrant arrivals.
Eighth grade exams will be held across the county on May 15 and 16, Thursday and Friday. Mrs. C F Worthen died after a months long illness at her home early Saturday. Born Mary L Boyd in Dorchester New Hampshire on November 5 1840 she married C F Worthen on October 12 1859. The couple moved from Charleston Vermont to Lynden later in life and raised twelve children four of whom survived them. She joined the Seventh Day Adventist church in 1864 and was active in the W C T U. Funeral services were held May 4 in Lynden with Elder J W Boyston and Rev Herbert Jones. Interment followed beside her daughters Ethel and Naomi in Lynden cemetery.
Delegates in Seattle perfect a central bureau to track acreage and crop output across Washington state. The system will compare expected demand with planned supply to prevent overproduction and keep prices stable. It aims to guide farmers on how much to plant for each staple and reduce losses from price swings.
The Bellingham Chamber of Commerce urges Whatcom County residents to write letters to friends back East on May 15 promoting life in the county. Aim is to publish in eastern papers and in the home paper, boosting publicity with minimal cost. Five thousand letters are targeted.
