Lind Is Awarded Lynden Sumas Road Contract

Lind formally wins the Lynden Sumas road paving contract for nine miles at 209038.56 dollars, about 23200 per mile, lower than estimates. Work to start soon with aim to finish early this summer. Skagit Construction Co. awarded 6 1/2 miles of state road from Allen to Blanchard for 192383 dollars.

Easter Cantata Charms Lynden Church Crowd

A large Sunday night Easter cantata at the Reformed Church on Grover Avenue drew a crowded house with many tickets turned away due to no seats. The union service titled Redemption's Song featured the M. E. congregation and Baptists with G T Schuyleman directing and Mrs. R B Le Cocq as organist. Soloists included Miss Booman Miss Tachel Mrs J De Hoog Miss Fountain Miss Handy Mr Waddilove Rev Benadom and Mr Zevenbergen. The choir list and mixed solo numbers impressed the audience with refined Easter music.

Marshal Arrests Ex-Convict in Lynden

Marshal Jake Le Compte arrested Samuel Lee an Irish ex convict with an international record in Lynden on Monday. Lee a former Walla Walla inmate has served time in Vancouver BC jail and was turned over to Federal Inspector Paul Dolstad for deportation. Canadian authorities refused entry and he will be deported to Ireland.

First Bonus Checks Arrive in Lynden

The first soldier bonus checks are arriving in Lynden with expectations that all local men will have theirs within two weeks. Fred and Frank Hatley each received part of a $675 total, one bonus slightly larger due to a records error. Neil Taylor and Harry Tyrall were among Lynden’s early recipients, each receiving notable amounts.

Lynden Post Office Calls For Bids

The United States government seeks bids for a new Lynden post office. Inspector S. F. Pinkham announced a 1400 square foot facility to be ready by May 1, with bids due April 10. Bidders must provide space for five to ten years, including heat light water a safe and furniture.

George Waples was reappointed secretary of the Whatcom County Fair Association this week. Directors decided to tender the post again and he began preparations for the 1921 County Fair. Lynden joins the big fair circuit this year with hopes for increased attractions and a stronger racing program.

Plan to curb Nooksack River takes shape at Everson

A preliminary survey will begin and a drainage district from Deming to the river mouth is proposed to fund river improvement. A committee led by A. H. Frasier will raise about 10,000 dollars for the survey with pledges totaling over two thousand dollars already given and a one mill tax approved to support river improvement.

Fire destroys Clarence Cavender farm chick brooding house

Fifteen hundred four week old chicks burned in a Tuesday afternoon fire that destroyed a brooder house at the Clarence Cavender farm. The blaze started about five o clock and destroyed the building, with no damage to other structures.

Harry Beernink returned Wednesday from the Washington Cooperative Egg and Poultry Association meeting in Seattle. Zweegman Golden Wedding Celebrated At Lynden Home

Mr and Mrs E Zweegman marked their golden wedding with a Monday gathering near Lynden attended by a large group of relatives and friends.
