Ask Auto Owners To Tear Off Road Signs

The Automobile Club of Western Washington urges Lynden residents and nearby landowners to remove roadside advertising signs cluttering highways. Laws passed in 1919 prohibit advertising on highway signals and warnings, encouraging abutting property owners to deny sign requests and keep main roads clear for safer, nicer driving.

Backbone Triumphs Delta Road Improvement Bid Call

Commissioners call for bids to gravel 8.5 miles of North Delta Road after farmers pressed for access all winter. Bids open April 20. Route starts southwest corner of section 14, township 40 north, range 2 east, runs north three miles then west four miles then south 1.4 miles to the west quarter corner of section 7.

Must Report Goods Taken to Canada

Inspector Paul Dolstad of Lynden reports that all merchandise valued over five dollars exported to Canada from the district must be reported to the American Customs. The Lynden office notes penalties for noncompliance and cites statistical purposes for the reports. The office is on Cemetery Road across Fishtrap Creek, west of the County Fair Grounds.

Lynden Wrestler Loses In Fast Bout At Hawley's Hall

Lynden light weight Art Boehringer 135 pounds loses a rapid match to Louie Hiscomb of North Dakota at Hawley's Hall. First fall 19 minutes to Hiscomb, second fall 7 minutes Boehringer, third 13 minutes Hiscomb. Boehringer had a prior win over Hiscomb about a month earlier.

Barbereaux Voice System Recital At High School

Glenn Estill presented a Barbereaux voice production recital Monday at the high school to a large audience. Miss Lane, forming a Lynden vocal class, assisted. Miss Morrison delivered readings and Mr. Smith spoke on the Barbereaux system.

Lynden Falls to Ferndale in opener ahead of Blaine clash

Lynden baseball team lost 11 to 1 to Ferndale Tuesday in the first game for Lynden this season. Lynden begins limited practice but fields its first high school team in eight years. They will meet Blaine Friday afternoon on Blaine grounds as county divisions form two groups for championship play. Lynden lineup includes Haveman, Lacy, Gorseman, Meurer, Whited, Axling, Johnson, Weeda with Daniels and Bajema as subs.

Nooksack River closed to fishing April 15 to June 15 yearly

Whatcom County Game Commission plans a seasonal ban on all game fish in the Nooksack River from April 15 through June 15 each year to allow small fish to mature. The measure, discussed with the Sportsmen’s Association, also adjusts upland bird seasons and bag limits and sets overall fishing rules for the county.

Funeral services set for Mrs Augusta Sass

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 30 PM at Knapps Parlors for Mrs Augusta L Sass who died Sunday at her home at age 69 years 7 months and 5 days. She leaves two daughters Mrs Rose Serrurier Lynden and Mrs Sarah Kavanaugh Pontiex Saskatchewan who will attend.
