Mrs Lena L Rockey mother of Fred D Rockey of Lynden died Monday morning at a Bellingham hospital after months of illness. She was 55. She is survived by her husband J D Rockey three sons Fred D Paul L and McClellan Rockey one brother and three sisters in Ohio. She had visited Lynden often and had many friends there.
Sumas area road projects advance with Rock road nearing completion. About 10 000 feet remain on Jones road. Saar creek shedging survey finished. Bids expected soon for Deming Claciér road. May 15 Interstate department to request funds for eight miles Glacier to Austin Pass.
Dozens of crashes are tied to alcohol in Whatcom County as spillovers from Canada line routes flood roads. On Fern dale Blaine road two cars left the ditch near the County Farm. An Everson Valley Home report notes a Nooksack Everson corner crash where drivers blamed glare from a dim street light for the turn and several occupants suffered minor cuts from shattered glass.
Whatcom county collects roughly $1000 monthly from liquor fines. May receipts reached $3744.80 while April totals were $5580. The fines are split equally between the state school fund and a district discretionary enforcement fund.
