Baptist Church Elects Officers at Yearly Meeting

At the annual banquet and business meeting about 50 attendees gathered at the Baptist parsonage. Officers elected include Mrs. Lillian Sprague clerk Miss Laura Glenn treasurer Miss Evelyn Scrimger treasurer Benevolence Society Miss Ruth Handy superintendent Sunday school Mrs G A Osbrink assistant superintendent Miss Hilda Elder organist G A Osbrink chorister and trustees Mrs Scrimger and Carl Bailey. The meeting featured a program of doxology prayer and church music with reports from deacons trustees and committees.

Lynden Eyes Big Poultry Receiving Station

Lynden seeks a large egg station from the Washington Co-Operative Eggard Poultry Association needing 40 000 hens signed up. The move promises Seattle and New York price access, boosting district cash returns and industry growth. A mass meeting is planned next Wednesday at 8 PM at Hawley's Hall.

Lynden Announces George H Whipple for County Assessor

George H Whipple announces his Republican candidacy to succeed Alex Van Wyet as county assessor. He cites prior service as Lynden Township assessor for six years and four years in Minnesota, with twelve years ago a prior bid for the office. Whipple expects broad support from throughout the county.

Joints Along Canadian Line to Close July 1

Saloons along the Canadian line at Lynden and Sumas will shut next Thursday under British Columbia liquor law. Licenses will only be granted to hotels with ten or more rooms, forcing all smaller liquor establishments to close.

All Lynden to Picnic on Fourth of July Celebration

Lynden plans a community Fourth of July picnic inviting every man woman and child in the district. The Holland church picnic is canceled this year to join the neighborhood event. A morning patriotic program will precede afternoon races for children and possibly a baseball game. R L Averill leads the Community Club committee organizing the affair.

Community Club backs stricter quarantine enforcement

The Community Club, meeting at the High School Monday night, urged the County Board of Health to post signs and isolate patients to enforce quarantine laws in the district. They argued stronger enforcement could prevent future epidemics and protect public health.

Rev Hoekenga Preaches Last Sermon at Local Church

Rev G Hoekenga of Ripon California formerly Lynden will preach in English Sunday at 8 pm at the Christian Reformed Church. This will be his final sermon here before returning home next week. The Amphyction Club hosted by Mrs Vale Huleart. next meeting at Mrs William Meurer's home.

Miss Pearl Baxter Marries Bellingham Man Allyn Roe

A quiet Tuesday ceremony at the E. E. Baxter home joined Miss Pearl Baxter and Allyn Roe of Bellingham. The Rev. W. O. Benadom officiated as pink and white decorations graced the home.

Lynden Chautauqua program announces notable speakers and events

The Lynden Chautauqua program for July 28 to August 3 lists prominent speakers including Judge George D. Alden and Judge Fred G. Bale, plus musical talents Mary Adel Hays, Raul Pereira, and the Royal Welsh Lady Singers. A major feature is the New York drama Kind ling by the Maurice Browne Players. Farmers Mutual Telephone stockholders vote to raise rates

By a 66 to 47 vote at their annual meeting Farmers Mutual Telephone Company residents face a 20 percent rate increase with new charges set for several brackets. Rates filed with the Public Service Commission would take effect July 1 if approved. No changes to mileage or long private lines. New officers include T. P. Reilly as president E. Edson as vice president and P. M. Serrurier as treasurer. Board members listed. Local lumber and lodge members attend events and a Legion social night is postponed to June 23.

Eighth grade certificates awarded across Lynden district

Dozens of students in Lynden district earned state eighth grade certificates this week. Recipients include Glen Walston in District 23 Clifton Axling Julius Vandermeer and Cornelius Verduin in District 29 Vivia O'Brien in District 41 Gerri Weeda in District 55 Myrtin Clinard in District 56 and many more from District 309 312 and Lynden Christian School with extensive lists of names and schools.

Farm Bureau County Accomplishments 1919 Summary

County Agent H. B. Carroll Jr. reports Farm Bureau activities in 1919 including one excursion to Western Washington Experimental Station with another planned for 1920. They secured bulk purchases saving farmers money on stamping powder fusible materials grass seed and more, held demonstrations on cereals soils fertilizer and drainage, conducted eight canning schools with about 200 attendees, helped set up seven silos, processed tuberculosis testing for nearly 4,000 cows, and hosted multiple public meetings on poultry berry and sheep topics with hundreds of participants.
